2. Nyhavn

During the 17th century, Nyhavn (New Harbour) was a vibrant hub of commerce and trade. But as new generations of shipping outgrew its confines and demanded bigger and better-equipped harbours, the area sank into decline. By the early part of the 20th century the buildings along this once-prosperous waterfront were run-down and the seedy streets were notorious no-go areas. However, over recent decades the lovely old buildings have been given a new lease of life at the heart of a revitalised entertainment district.

3. Copenhagen Zoo

Copenhagen Zoo has come a long way from its beginnings in 1859, when one of its proudest exhibits was a turtle in a bucket. One thing that hasn’t changed over the years are the beautiful buildings, many of them still in their original condition, reminding visitors of the rich heritage of one of Europe’s oldest zoos.

4. Oresund Bridge

The Oresund Bridge opened in 2000 to provide a non-stop travel link across the Oresund Strait. It is the largest combined road and rail bridge in Europe. Visit this award-winning bridge and tunnel to admire its architecture and to travel between Sweden and Denmark in less than 30 minutes.

5. Copenhagen Opera House

Copenhagen Opera House is one of the most expensive opera houses in the world, built at the beginning of the 21st century as a timely expression of optimism and confidence in the future. It was paid for by a local shipping company and donated to the city of Copenhagen. The work of celebrated Danish architect Henning Larsen, the venue seats a maximum audience of 1,700 and is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics.
