Tilburg is a university town full of culture, museums and of course a vibrant nightlife. It's also very close to a number of nature reserves and a really cool theme park.
Tilburg was famous for its wool mills and played an important role in the textile industry for hundreds of years. The many factories that were opened here in the 19th century contributed to the city's rapid growth. Today, Tilburg is a small city with the vibrant atmosphere which can be expected of a university town.
Join in the fun in carnival season, sit at one of the many sidewalk cafés and watch the world go by in summer and enjoy the culture Tilburg has to offer anytime of the year. For example, the TextielMuseum, or the De Pont, a museum for modern art which is located in an old spinning mill. The 19th-century Neo-Gothic Sint-Jozefkerk on busy Heuvelplein is also a must.
There's also a lot to do around Tilburg, such as Efteling, a theme park for both young and old. You can also hire bicycles and cycle out to De Loonse en Drunense Duinen or drive out to De Biesbosch. Cities such as Breda and Den Bosch are a short drive away and also easy to reach by train.
If you’re travelling by car, there are seven parking garages in the city centre to choose from as well as two park and ride (P+R) parking lots which provide cheap and sometimes even free parking. If you're travelling by train, the centre of Tilburg is a stone's throw from the main station. Walk around town or take in the architecture while relaxing at one of the many sidewalk cafés!
If you're already in the Netherlands and travelling by train, Tilburg is about 1.5 hours from Amsterdam. Take the train to Utrecht Centraal and change for the intercity to 's-Hertogenbosch. Tilburg is also easy to reach by car. Your satnav should be able to get you there.
Whether you're looking for culture, nature, fun or just want to watch the world go by from a sidewalk café, Tilburg has something for everyone. Don't miss it!
