The hotel was well situated for me as a lone female and wanting to see several Broadway shows. The staff were efficient but not particularly friendly. The worst part was that there was no hot water in the hotel for most of my week. They didn't announce it so it was only when I said there was no hot water in my room that I was told there was none in the whole hotel. At check out they did say they would refund the tourist tax but there is no evidence of that yet.

Do Not Stay Here — A Truly Awful Hotel Experience I honestly cannot understand how this hotel continues to market itself as a charming or “vintage” property. There is a very big difference between a historic hotel with character and a hotel that is simply old, worn, poorly maintained, and neglected. This property falls firmly into the second category. The condition of the hotel only reinforces that impression. The common areas are tired and run-down, with peeling wallpaper, badly scuffed walls, dim lighting, and stained, worn furniture. The lobby was another unpleasant part of the experience. It was loud and chaotic, with stained furniture and an atmosphere that felt more like a crowded waiting room than the lobby of a hotel. Checking in and checking out both involved long lines, which made an already frustrating experience even worse. The room was small, dark and cramped even for NYC. The worst was you could hear all the noises from the bathroom in the next room. So disgusting! Uncomfortable bed, chargers don’t work. TV kept resetting every 3 minutes. I would absolutely not stay here again, New York has far too many hotels to settle for a place that smells like mildew, looks neglected, provides almost nothing for breakfast, charges extra for basic conveniences. Beware of the $500 smoking fee- picks up steam from hair straighteners and charges you for a violation without any investigation or even looking in room. There are better options. Choose one.
