Explore the historic relics of the scenic town and gaze up at the red hoodoos of the nearby canyon and national park.

Tropic is a charming tree-filled town at the base of Bryce Canyon. It offers spectacular views of the reddish-brown rock formations and has an eponymous trail leading up to the canyon. Chat with the friendly locals in this ranching community and enjoy the natural outdoor setting.

Stroll through the Pioneer Village, which is an outdoor museum that recreates the early houses of Tropic. Visit the historic 19th-century wooden cabin of Ebenezer Bryce, a Mormon leader after whom the adjacent national park was named. The intriguing history of the town is summarized in the Tropic Town Heritage Center.

Enjoy the fairly mild temperatures at these high altitudes and explore the picturesque surrounding topography in Bryce Canyon National Park. Follow the Tropic Trail that leads to the canyon and its various other trails. Hike to the Agua Canyon to see the red towers of The Rabbit and The Hunter.

Visit Black Birch Canyon for its spectacular overlook. Capture photos of Rainbow Point and other formations from the roadside pullout. Follow the Rim Trail to Swamp Canyon, which is a little more intimate than other canyons in the park.

Among Bryce Canyon’s highlights is the Natural Bridge, which serves as a frame for the verdant valley below. Hike with your family along some of the picturesque trails, such as the Navajo Trail, the Mossy Cave Trail and the Fairyland Loop Trail.

Stay for the sunset and watch the darkening shades of the red canyon. Make sure to bring enough food and water for your walk through this arid and secluded zone.

Find the small town in the Tropic Valley just east of Bryce Canyon National Park and west of the Paria River. It is in the southern part of Utah, about 280 miles (450 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City International Airport and a similar distance east of Las Vegas Airport.

Visit the small community of Tropic for its spectacular canyon views and interesting ranching culture.

Very small place, but enough dining options if you're there for just a few days.
