Very welcoming. Rustic, charming with lovely friendly host and professional staff. The honeymoon lavender suite was peaceful and tranquil. Great view's with nice pool area. Nice breakfast and good banter with the staff. We would visit again!
Tulbagh is a great base to stay for a few days and Mountain Manor is the best accommodation you could hope for.
A short drive from the lovely little town with great restaurants and wine farms.
Stunning scenery and hiking trails.
We had a wonderful stay at Mountain Manor! Excellent host with super hospitality! We had the two bedroom two bathroom house. It was well equipped and very comfortable. We had our own patio for evening braais. The pool area was also great with beautiful views down the valley.
This is a beautiful place to stay, but a little out of the way for most travelers. It's approximately 90 minutes' drive from Cape Town and in the opposite direction of the Garden Route, which is the route most travelers tend to follow. But it's a perfect get-away if you live in Cape Town and want to spend a long weekend in a quiet and beautiful area. Hiking, biking, winetasting... We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the manor, but you need to go to the town of Tulbagh (12 kms away) for other meals. The town itself is very small with a few houses of historical significance.
Awful stay in a potentially gorgeous place. Avoid!
It started on arrival. The charming staff member showed us to our room, (mentioning that the owner was away for a few days - the entirety of our stay) - we'd booked the "Honeymoon suite" a separate room, half on stilts with stunning views. Having showed it to us, I asked how to work the air conditioning to be told "oh, I don't know why that doesn't work!" Clearly it hadn't worked for some time.It was 32'c that day and it was sweltering hot for 2 Brit's.
I explained that we wouldn't be able to sleep without A/C and she just shrugged and said she'd try to contact the owner.
A while later my wife went to find her and asked if they'd another room that did have working A/C, she did so we moved rooms, to one that was inferior to what we'd booked but it had A/C.what we didn't realise initially was it didn't have any curtains over the double doors that had glass panels in. That meant there was zero privacy in the room from when anyone, such as the gardener was walking by, plus of course at sunrise the light came flooding in.There was evidence that there had been a blind or curtains there once, presumably it had broken - some time ago - and they just couldn't be bothered to fix or replace it.
There were 3 dogs on site - we LOVE dogs - but they were left out all night(presumably because the owner was away?!!)not our problem, except at 4am I was suddenly awoken to hear frantic scratching at the door! There's loads more but I'm out of space
We had an absolutely wonderful stay, the manor is beautiful, the view over the orchards and the valley is stunning, the breakfast is delicious and everything you may possibly need is provided. There’s a unique personal touch which you don’t get from commercial establishments. Would definitely return again.
We stayed two nights in early March. The inn was a bit hard to find, due to goofy directions from Google maps. It's about 10 km out of town, at the foot of a mountain surrounded by fruit trees, and birds everywhere. Due in part to its remoteness, the manor is incredibly relaxing, and the owner was terrific and very helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable, in an friendly old South African farmhouse sort of way, with a great shower with instant hot water. Breakfast was great (esp the everything omelette), and we were allowed use of the common kitchen to reheat takeaway and leftovers. The only negative is that one had to drive to town for lunch or dinner (did not bother us, it was a pleasant drive with zero traffic), and it's not much of a town. As part of staying at the Mountain Manor, we got a discount at the Turbagh Hotel Restaurant, which was quiet and had great food, esp the wood-fired pizzas. If we get back up there, we would definitely stay again.
Absolutely breathtaking views and beautiful surroundings. Could be a peaceful, tranquil getaway. No proper sound-proofing. We had very inconsiderate guests who refused to tone down their noise levels and this was after 11 pm. Breakfast was superb. Friendly staff.
