This was my second time staying at Alma Tulum - the first time was 4 years ago and it was great. This time was such a disappointment. The rooms were worn out with stains on the bed linens, dust on the floors and surfaces, and mosquito nets with holes and broken tie-downs. However, the main issue was the massive bug infestation (gnats, mosquitoes, and roaches). At night, the bugs and bites were insane. We told the front desk and emailed photos to the hotel manager asking for help. They sent in housekeeping with a can of RAID while we left the room for dinner. We returned to thousands of dead bugs all over the bed and floors and live ones flying around. The next night we asked if there was anything they could do and the manager said "I have bugs in my house too" and that they would spray RAID again. After two nights of trying to make do with the situation, we asked to checkout on our third night and were met with 'we have a no refund policy and would not even refund you if there was a massive hurricane - that is our policy.' Our email to the owner never received a reply. We checked out anyway as we could no longer sleep with bugs biting and breathing in RAID chemicals for a third night (in an eco hotel). Because of their lack of care and concern, I am posting this review so that no one else gets caught by their "no refund policy". Re COVID, not one staff member wore a mask during the whole stay (front desk, waiters, kitchen staff, housekeeping - no masks).
