"The common space at this hotel is lovely and the vibe is nice. The room was a fine size, but the bed was one of the least comfortable beds we've slept in at a hotel. For a hotel of this level, that was a big disappointment. We had an unfortunate incident at the restaurant where a dish that was marked gluten free actually contained gluten, which was a big problem for my husband, who has a gluten allergy. The hotel did a good job of trying to make it right once they realized the mistake, but you can't really take something like that back. I hope they learned from the incident, and travelers with food allergies should take extra care to avoid the situation we had. That said, the breakfasts we had there were otherwise very good and service was quick and friendly."

"Oaktown Roost is a great old building that's been given contemporary touches and all-new bathrooms. It's cute and looked just like the photos. However, what the photos don't capture is the smell. There was a very strong air freshener smell in the lobby on arrival, which I assumed was from the reed diffuser. Our room had the same strong smell with an undercurrent of something vaguely poop-smelling. The bathroom smelled fine. I opened the window, which helped a bit, but the window frame was a little broken and I smashed a few of my fingers trying to shut it when we left for dinner. We thought about asking to switch rooms but figured that since the common areas also smelled, the rooms were probably all the same. We noticed a few strands of long hair on a towel and the sheets but decided to assume that they were ours. However, there was something brown splattered on the wall in the bedroom, and the bathroom had dust on the walls and fixtures. The sheets also had some pilling and small stains, but they smelled clean. We had a street side room but it was pleasantly quiet all night, even with the window open. The Nespresso coffee was nice after not sleeping much. Overall, it was a decent stay and we would consider staying again once they've dealt with the source of the smells."
