Colonia del Sacramento
Glamorous beachside escapes and picture-perfect colonial cities are just the start of the unforgettable experiences you’ll have on a trip to Uruguay. This sophisticated South American nation is home to wild “gaucho” (cowboy) country as well as vibrant cities full of culture and incredible food.
There’s a great range of hotels here to suit all budgets. Starting at S$119 a night, you’ll have 1,015 places to choose from. But if you really want to make your wallet happy, bundle your flights and hotel into a Uruguay Holiday Package. Add on experiences and a rental car and watch your savings (and the perks!) grow. Need some inspiration? If you’re visiting the capital, Montevideo, add a walking tour of the city to your booking.
Day 1: Catch the ferry from Buenos Aires to the charming city of Colonia del Sacramento. Wander through age-old plazas and cobblestone lanes. Be sure to check out La Calle de los Suspiros and the famed old town, Barrio Historico. Grab a bite to eat and catch a sunset at Colonia del Sacramento Lighthouse.
Day 2-4: Rent a car and head to the cosmopolitan capital, Montevideo. From a walk along the Rambla to fascinating historical attractions, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Explore the Old Town starting at Plaza Independencia, catch a show at Teatro Solís and hit the beach on a hot day.
Day 5-7: Get your fill of surf, sand and sun at Punta del Este. This is the place to go for nightlife in Uruguay, with the clubs of nearby La Barra being the biggest attraction. When you’re ready for a break from the beach, explore the Hand of Punta del Este and Casapueblo — a “living sculpture” hotel that’s one of Uruguay's most famous sights.
