Veikkola, in northern Kirkkonummi, has good services and is a great place to visit for holidaymakers who appreciate the beauty of nature and outdoor activities.
Veikkola is close to Kirkkonummi's other attractions, as well as Espoo, Lohja and Nuuksio National Park. Veikkola is not a place to visit for a city break, as the services are primarily intended for local residents, but the wildlife in the area is surprisingly diverse.
A holiday in Veikkola is a great way to enjoy the beautiful lakeside landscapes, as Lakes Lamminjärvi, Kaljärvi and Haapajärvi are right beside the town. Nuuksio National Park, which extends into Veikkola, is the most magnificent natural attraction nearby. Set plenty of time aside to follow the two-mile Kaarniaispolku Nature Trail and go kayaking or take a guided tour.
It is easy to take a cheap break in Veikkola by visiting the other attractive natural sites in Kirkkonummi, such as the Porkkalanniemi recreation area and Meiko nature reserve. Porkkalanniemi is dominated by maritime views and pine trees warped by spindrifts blowing in from the sea. The Dragesviken area also has a guest harbour and related services, and there are two islands designated for recreational use, both accessible by boat: Stora Brändö and Järvö. The Meiko nature reserve in Myllykylä, closer to Veikkola, is an attractive outdoor area dominated by oak forests and wilderness.
Kirkkonummi is ideal for golfers, and a holiday in Veikkola can easily be structured around a tour of the local greens. Kurk Golf, the closest course to Veikkola, has a diverse range of courses, making it easy to find the right round. The nine-hole Valley, Lake and Hill courses can be played separately or as part of the Valley&Lake package. There are three other golf clubs close to each other in Masala, Kirkkonummi: Sarfvik Golf, Hirsala Golf and Peuramaa Golf Hjortlandet.
Hvitträsk, built by three architects together, is a mansion-like wilderness studio in the National Romantic style that currently functions as a museum. Hvitträsk contains furniture designed by Eliel Saarinen, and it is well worth visiting the Hvitträsk restaurant as part of your trip. The Alisgård Local History Museum, which is open in the summer, provides an interesting overview of the local history.
It is easy to get to Veikkola by car or bus from Greater Helsinki.
