"The Algonquin is an historic hotel that is very elegant-felt like stepping back into the past with high tea, quiet and efficient service, porch with wicker chairs to congregate on pleasant days and fireplaces flowing to ward off the chill on gloomy days. The room was beautiful with a stunning view out onto the water. It is a good idea to book dining options in advance. The weather did not provide an opportunity for me to enjoy the outdoor pool area, although it looked lovely. There are a lot of families and a great selection of activities to keep all entertained with the mandatory $30/day additional charge for onsite activities. I will say, that as a solo traveler, despite the buzz of activity and people, I did not find it as easy to to feel a part of the scene. Smaller, more intimate hotels have tended to be more inclusive and welcoming. It is a perfect spot for families and couples wanting a romantic getaway."
