A lovely stay, Our room recently refurbished to a good standard. Nice pub and restraint, Very good food. Owners and staff very friendly. Great for dogs.

Typical lodge and didnt feel like it was the best in terms of cleanliness. No aircon so summer time is very brutal. Staff service was nice and decent English breakfast. Parking is fairly easy.

Room 23 - The main room area was spacious and clean, however it could have been decorated and finished off more professionally. There were scuff marks on the walls in places. The lighting was too harsh for a hotel room. There were power sockets above the beds and halfway up the walls, which looked unsightly with exposed cables across the walls. There was a powerpoint in between the pillows where the double bed has been positioned, which could be dangerous if a phone is left charging, as it is right next to the head a sleeping person. The bath had black mould patches around the silicone sealing and there was no lock on the bathroom door. It was also difficult to shut properly. You can see where decorating has been done, but not finished off neatly. The breakfast was very good, but the room smelled of damp or drains where we were seated, which impacted on enjoyment of our food. The bar area and restaurant are very nicely decorated - welcoming and cosy. The staff were friendly and helpful. But the property overall is in need of some attention to improve the quality of guest experience.

Friendly staff, good food, but very noisy!
The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, homemade food and service were great. The room itself didn't seem to match the photos though, quite small but it was clean. Low rating is for the noise which unfortunately we could not ignore throughout the night, and therefore we slept very badly. The walls and floors are thin, so you can hear everything around and below, as well as car noises from the main road. Our room was next to some sort of boiler (?) which made a prolonged audible noise every minute or two throughout the night, we couldn't sleep at all.

An enjoyable stay. Well worth the visit
We had a great time. The room was clean & tidy. Great to have, not only tea & coffee but also hot chocolate, latte and biscuits. Chocolate mints as well. Botled water in the fridge too. Breakfast was well prepared and tasty. Bar area had very comfortable lounge chairs .

We stayed there before, and found it very comfortable the staff are very pleasant, the food was outstanding, couldn't eat it all was so much, good value for money, I would definitely recommend the halfway house.. Will be going again..

The property was surprising good the down stairs bar and dining area were good the atmosphere was friendly and the staff attentive and friendly. The restaurant was small but the food was very very good. The owner chef discussed the menu with me and his recommendation was not far wrong. The restaurant alone makes a visit at least worthwhile. The room was as you would expect of a pub basic but nevertheless clean there were toiletries supplied shower worked well. The only criticism I would make was the bed was like stone very very hard. Tv reception was poor maybe due to weather conditions. The accommodation is a pub so noise from the bar on a weekend was to be expected and it didn’t disappoint there were parties both nights so was a little high they ended at mid night so no complaints there. All in all a good choice if you are on route to somewhere or visiting the area. There is nothing in walking distance from the property so car is a must.

Superb food and very comfortable
Our stay was absolutely superb. The owner is the chef and the food was amazing, top quality and beautifully prepared. Our room was bery comfortable and all the staff were very friendly and professional. It was very fairly priced and I would recommend The Halfway House to anyone.

We have stayed here before during the Covid restrictions, due to it being dog friendly. On our third and recent visit we discovered that it is now under new ownership and the room we like has now been upgraded with new doors, beds, and bathroom facilities. The previous management were parsimonious with toiletries and coffee making facilities, however, the new owners are much more generous and provided a range of biscuiuts and hot drinks. On all our visits we have been impressed with the breakfasts, however we were prevously unimpressed with evening dining. Speaking to other guest at our latest stay we we told that the food is now superb and we look forward to sampling the menu on our next visit. Apparently, the new owner is a chef!

A Hidden Jewel
Found online as I needed a B&B for one night while speaking at a meeting nearby. Didn't realise it was attached to a pub at first, but the rooms were separate so no noise from bar areas. Single room was basic, but clean and comfortable. Excellent selection of tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits etc. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, and an amazing full English breakfast with lots of choice.

The staff here are really nice but that's the only good thing I can say. The room was old and tired, it was also SO HOT that it was insane. It's like the floors were heated. You open the windows to get some cool air and are greated to floods of cigarette smoke. The parking is a joke, car park is just full of motor homes. Sorry but I wouldn't stop here again even if the rooms were £25 a night - but at £75 a night that's just not worth it

The hotel was convenient for our journey, staff were really friendly and helpful and we had everything that we needed. The room was large, clean and easily accessible. There was a lovely atmosphere to the hotel. The food in the evening was excellent and freshly prepared.
