Sparkling clean with great pool area. Hard to travel to and from if you don’t have a car. Limited dining options and expensive dinner menu. Other than the pool, not much else to do.

Stay here! It’s the best!

From start to finish an absolute delight to stay here! The grounds are gorgeous, the staff are all so kind and helpful, food was good. Loved it! Had a massage too! Highly recommend it’s a great place to stay.

A lovely hotel with beautiful grounds looking across the could forest area. Heated pool was a lovely place to relax after taking trips in the surrounding areas.

This is our favorite hotel near the San Jose area and was our third time staying here. Beautiful inside and out. Birds everywhere. Has nice pool areas, restaurants, bars, and shops. Very friendly staff as well.

Beautiful grounds with amazing people. The bed was awful, there is no hot tub, and the food is ok. To me is was a $150 a night room but with a few improvements would justify the price.

This property is well maintained and staff are great. It is a little far from town and the road was not the best. The room did not have air conditioning or a dehumidifier so it was not as comfortable as it could have been. Did not use the pool but it looked nice. Breakfast was great and the service staff were friendly and accommodating.

Our stay at Fondavela was great. The staffs are very friendly and nice. We should give 5 star for that. Our room was alright. We did see some bugs but given that it is surrounded by forest we can understand that. The restaurant on property was good. We played pool at the bar and relaxed.

The food is substandard, the buffet is terrible taste-wise, and the spread is very small, given the hotel's small size. Cleanliness is decent inside but not outside of the room. Its overpriced for the value you get for the stay

Very nice property grounds and great location. Restaurant is overpriced. Hot tubs were out of order during our visit and we found out the hard way that tre “standard” rooms are too small and cramped. The “Standard Comfort” rooms are more spacious and are the ones showcased on the Expedia website as “Standard”

We liked this hotel. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. We happen to be there during a very windy days and we could hear the wind in the room. It was SUPER windy and we could definitely hear it all. Also, they were doing work on the pool which was close to our room...and every morning at 6am when the workers came in there was A LOT of noise: them yelling, banging, etc... So, it impacted our stay for sure. We didn't sleep to well. Plus, we didn't have access to the pool because they were working on it.

The property location is beautiful, but the hotel needs a major renovation. Our room was old, tired, and the bathroom had a clogged drain with cold standing water in the shower when we arrived. There were broken towel racks and things in the room, and it was dark and run down. The two hot tubs did not work. There was poor lighting on the path to walk to our room. The food was limited and not great. Wifi did not work at times. There was a water system issue with no water one night too.

I wish I could give Fonda Vela 6 out of 5. The road from Santa Elana was fun, take your time you'll get there. The property was spectacular. Properly placed to enjoy every sunset. About a 25 minutes walk up to Monte Verde Park. Our room was recently renovated and was beautiful. The local coffee in the room was delicious. Beds, shower, views were all perfect. The restaurant on site makes you not want to look any further. Dinner was fantastic. Try the coffee ice cream. Breakfast is included and will prep you for your day of exploration. Freddy (I think his name was) was a gracious host at the restaurant. He even included us in the feeding of Matéo the hotel monkey. The desk can help you book local tours etc. They set us up for ziplining. The property is truely in the clouds. Early mornings and after sunset the mist comes in and makes this property truely magical. If my wife and I ever head back to Monte Verde we will definitely stay here again.
