The garden area is really good, spacious and well kept with ample security. The staff are very polite and helpful. The T.V situation is poor and needs attention. There are no Tea or coffee making facilities and some of the rooms are void of a fridge. I found the hotel good value for money and will definately try to rebook.

The property needs a lot of work to bring it up to scratch. For example no water came out when you turn on the hot water. However, the staff were very friendly and helpful

Shopper beware. I stay in hotels 200 nights a year I always look for the best in spite of potential surprises in a hotel. I read the reviews for this hotel prior to booking and thought it couldn’t be that bad. After all, it was self described with 4 stars and the pics looked wonderful. I should say the nature around the hotel was stunning and extremely impressive as was security for such a large complex. The WiFi was a major challenge going in/out with no consistency. I booked for 2 adults. At breakfast time I asked for a glass of water and found there was an extra charge, I was billed for the second adult breakfast even though the Orbitz confirmation indicated free breakfast for two. If you’re interested in using the gym there was a charge There was a beautiful Olympic size pool on the property but it too had a charge. The employees were not friendly especially those in the breakfast hall. The lady who checked me in was very nice but after so many problems I just couldn’t wait to check out. The interior and exterior of the hotel needs a major renovation. I won’t return again. Rate: 2/10

During my stay at Gihon Addis Ababa hotel what I like about this hotel is safe and quiet attractive park and huge out door swimming pool of course the delicious food. When it comes to customer service,the hotel management have to work hard.

They charged my credit card for no reason and declined to refund. I called so many times but nobody willing to refund. They offered reimbursement in kind. That being said the breakfast is very good and they have a beautiful compound. It has a big potential if they have a good management.

The hotel is located in a nice and big garden. The rooms are clean although the hotel is a bit old, but it is okay for the price. It is also authentic and has good Ethiopian cuisine.

Reservation was totally screwed up to the point where my three traveling companions and I ended up sharing one room (two single beds and two mattresses on the floor) after previously making reservations for two rooms for two people each. Since the Ghion had "lost" our reservations (which I don't believe since they later "found" mine) they also didn't provide a shuttle from the airport. A totally dissatisfying experience on all levels.

I have been staying at the Ghion Hotel when in Addis for the past three years,3+ times/year. It was great to see the improvements being made on this visit. The food was also much better at the non-traditional restaurants. The traditional food restaurant and food has always been good and reasonable.

This hotel has a fabulous location. I know it from old and it is disappointing to visit and not have water in the room and especially hot water - there is a randomness to water. The hotel feels "tired" and even the once lovely gardens are lacking colour and care The staff in the bar and restaurant are most helpful and pleasant, reception less so. Sadly after knowing this hotel and using it for more than 20 years, I fell I cannot stay again. No car arrived at the airport to collect me despite this being on offer.

I paid for room through Expedia, When I arrived they told me theyd not received payment. I had to pay again when I was there. First room I was put in had no hot water.

Did not have any record of my reservation - I had to pay a second time to get my room around mid night. There were other guests with the same problem who had booked through sites other than Expedia. Ghion Hotel does not reply to e-mails - although a phone in request for the airport shuttle was honored.

This hotel is denying that I paid through expedia, although I have my receipts. They are forcing me to pay again at the hotel, which is unacceptable. It is not fair to charge twice for a mediocre room. This is the worst hospitality and customer service i have ever experienced in any hotel in my life. I am wasting a vacation day in Addis trying to deal with this.

Only problem with my stay was the inability of Ghion Hotel to receive payment fom hotels.com for my room. Others at hotel were having a similar problem so it was quite a chore to check out with money stilled owed to hotel

They weren’t at the airport to pick me up as promised. They couldn’t find my Hotels.com reservation and I had to pay cash. The water pressure was so bad I had to shower by scooping water from the faucet with my hand.

Older hotel with a history but no wifi the room
Great staff but wifi is only downstairs. Beds are small for twins in my opinion. Hot wated takes 20 min to heat up. Restaurant is good. Hotel amenities such as spa and gym are not included. Must pay.

Hotel a bit old n Tired but staff friendly. Phone didnt work in room so they upgraded me to a quiet Bungalow in the back for free. Quite spacious, nice gardens and a variety of indoor and outdoor eating areas. They said Wifi didnt work in room but I found I connected OK.

The prearranged and confirmed airport shuttle failed to turn up so I had to get an expensive taxi, Apparently the driver 'forgot'. I needed the shuttle back to the airport the following morning at 6am and was assured this would not be a problem. However when I got to reception I had to wake the sleeping staff and then pressure them repeatedly to find some transport which eventually arrived 45 minutes late. The checkout staff were inefficient and rude. Room decor and furnishings were very tired

The Ghion hotel, once a jewel of Addis Ababa, is very ran down and dilapidated. Now rated to be a 2* by Ethiopian tourism board, the prices proposed are ridiculously high and the room description is deceptive: - there is no internet in the room, only in the lobby - phones do not work in every room (therefore impossible to order room service, for instance) - rooms and bathrooms need a very serious freshening-up - bed felt like a bathtub on springs - hotel staff struggles to deal with Expedia bookings

Gorgeous lication in old garden and friendly if not overly competent staff. Large but very basic roons in need of repair. Refurbishment in process, much needed. Great potential.

I want refund ASAP. Very Unfit
Nasty mold bathroom no wash towels, u must bring your own, no working, TV, pool close at 4pm, only lobby wifi, Shower broken had to change my room. No hot water. I requested refund but made online payment. please remove this hotel. I will not recommended. The bed was a super tiny twin bed. carpet was dirty. This was the worst stay and very overpriced. Please refund me, room price 10dollars would be fair. Staff is fraud local calls are free. So I was refunded quickly when I requested to speak to manager.
