Go skiing, boating and hiking in this idyllic pocket of the Wasatch mountain range, where fresh powder falls in winter and wildflowers bloom throughout spring.

The town of Alta is perched on Little Cottonwood Canyon within the tree-peppered Wasatch mountain range. Surrounded by the Uinta- Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the soaring mountain ridges, Alta is a charming little village that is ideal for year-round adventure in the outdoors. Check out the Alta Ski Resort and experience the mountain’s beautiful fresh powder. Spot pretty wildflowers while hiking around high alpine meadows and through dense woods of aspen and spruce. Unwind after exploring Alta’s breathtaking wilderness and relax in the town’s luxurious lodges.

In winter, the Alta Ski Resort is a must-do. Renowned for its remarkable powder snowfall and serious attitude to skiing, Alta Ski Resort has a beautifully diverse selection of pistes and skiable terrain. Snowboarding is not permitted at Alta Ski Resort, so skiers can make the most of the feather-light powder.

The mountain’s trails include several beginner-grade runs and plenty of terrain for families to enjoy. Explore over 116 runs connected by 11 lifts and be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Alta Ski Resort has equipment rental facilities and a ski school. Take advantage of Alta’s Snowcat and helicopter skiing to explore new terrain, or simply sign up to ski with a ranger for a fresh perspective on the mountain.

In the warmer months, be sure to explore Alta’s beautiful surrounding National Forest with a hike or scenic drive along the region’s network of trails. High alpine meadows are dotted with granite cliffs and lush forests. Between July and September, you might spot up to 170 varieties of wildflowers in the canyon. Spot deer and moose or listen for the call of the coyote. Go on a boating trip in the pristine lakes and try fly fishing. Check out the mesmerizing turquoise color of the beautiful Cecret Lake.

Alta is a small village with a handful of lodges, condos, restaurants and shops. Stay at the mountain base lodges or rent a pretty chalet. Further lodging can be found in Salt Lake City, located a 45-minute drive away. Public buses connect the two regions via a scenic byway.
