Travel Guide
Amstelveen
Looking for a nice mix of city and countryside? Visit Amstelveen and discover the best of both worlds!

Stay in Amstelveen and take advantage of the proximity of nature and the great city of Amsterdam! You can go for a walk in the woods in the morning and shopping in Kalverstraat in the afternoon. What more could you ask for?

In the 13th century, Amstelveen was nothing more than a small fen harvesting village. A city centre developed around the first church that was built in 1278 and Amstelveen grew into a modest village. Later, in de 17th and 18th centuries, it became a popular destination with rich Amsterdamers who hired cottages so they could enjoy the countryside.

It’s still easy to travel between Amstelveen and Amsterdam. You can take the bus or tram straight into the heart of Amsterdam. Get off at Museumplein and visit the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum, go to a performance at the Concertgebouw or shop in the famous P.C. Hoofdstraat.

But there's also plenty to do in Amstelveen, such as the impressive Stadshartplein, with its huge shopping mall. The countryside still attracts a lot of people to Amstelveen. Spend a day in the Amsterdamse Bos, explore Groengebied Amstelland or hire a bicycle and follow the route through the Groene AS, which takes you through the beautiful nature reserve de Middelpolder.

Amstelveen is one of the greenest municipalities in the Netherlands, so do take some time to explore it! You can go cycling, bird watching, walking and sailing. You can get there by bus if you're travelling around the Netherlands by public transport or even walk from the city centre. If you're travelling by car, you can park it on the street or in one of the parking garages.

Amstelveen is to the southwest of Amsterdam and easy to reach by car. If you're travelling by public transport, a bus or tram 5 from Amsterdam Central Station will get you there. Amstelveen does not have a train station.

Visit the diverse town of Amstelveen. Whether you stay for a week or just a few days, you'll find more than enough to do.

If you prefer as l do to be just outside the busy hub of a city and close enough to dip in and dip out then Amstelveen is a perfect location. Plenty of green open space, lake's and trees.

Amstelveen is a great for quiet location with big shopping mall and all sorts of dining options. Its a safe area and walk at night is nice. Transport is great example tram straight to van gogh museum. If you have a car use street parking.
