My staying in the hot August
I stayed for 2 nights, breakfast was decent but pricey, also had a late supper in the Chinese restaurant downstairs, it was actually pretty good. My room located at the end of 3rd floor which was nice and clean. One thing bothered me quite a bit was during my staying, the 3rd floor hallway had very strong cigarette smoking smell near the elevator, it was horrible since it's a non-smoking 5 star hotel.

Breakfast was a problem. It was not included for a high cost. The additional charge was 160 yuan, over £18. It was very difficult to get just a coffee and croissant, and this also was very expensive. Other hotels in China of equal standard give breakfast for a much lower overall cost. No restuarants close by so either had to eat at hotel (costly) or take a taxi.

Walking distance to Peking and Tsinghua Universities. Nice pool and sauna area. Friendly staff but not all speak English.

Don't pollute your washcloths
Hotel has beautiful lobby and very accommodating bellboys. Money changing easy but there is s $300 limit at a time. The room was spacious BUT hot. Could not set temperature lower even after asking maid. Biggest regret was not taking my own coffee as there was no free coffee in lobby but you could buy coffee after 8:00 at the bar for $3. The maids were sweet and cleaned every day. Language barrier not a big issue. Top reason for not giving 5 stars: I was charged for "polluting" their washcloths upon checkout. They charged 120 yuan (almost $20) for polluting 3 washcloths Their definition of polluting was that there was makeup on them. A natural result of using washcloths at bedtime and it did come out when we washed them by hand.

Convenient to PKU but already showing some wear
This is a good hotel, and especially convenient for visitors to Peking University (or Tsinghua probably). But despite being less than 10 years old it is showing some wear. I had no hot water the first evening, and the desk chair was broken (wouldn't go up/down so I was stuck with a chin-level work desk!)

A good hotel if you need to be close to campus...
I was staying at the Lake View Hotel for 5 nights for a business trip/global module at Peking University in Beijing. The hotel has a nice pool and spa. Facility is in good condition especially in the room which I'm upgraded to after not getting hot water in another guest room. Details of the hotel need more work. Not really up to 5 star standards. But staff is friendly and helpful.

Far From Good
Decided to stay in Haidian district this time and this hotel was recommended as it was near my meeting place. Hotel is owned by Peking University and across from Tsinghua university. This hotel represents my overall experience with China (I've traveled to China for work for over 4 years and no less than 100 trips) in a sense that it looks decent from the outside but inside is artificial and half-hearted. Room was old and not much attention to details when built. Furniture was old, faded and extremely dusty. Staff was all over the place. For example, asked the bell person to grab me a taxi, he asked me to wait and conveyed the message to the front desk who told me to wait and then repeatedly asked other front desk staff what to do with my taxi request. In the meanwhile, several empty taxis came and gone by the hotel driveway looking for guests but no one bother to flag them down. Food option offered at this hotel is definitely below average with American price. Wenjin is a better option if you have to stay in Haidian district near university area.

The location is a university setting which is very safe. Just wish closer by foot to other retail outlets. The hotel has the best pool and hot tubs of about any hotel I have stayed and they are open to 11pm each night and staffed. Also, many dining choices. Very limited wine choices with most out of stock the entire week.

Beijing near Peking University
Hotel itself was beautiful. Room very nice, as nice as you would find anywhere. Staff very friendly and very helpful, but few spoke English. They helped arrange cabs and made great suggestions for walking tours of Beijing. Food in hotel excellent. The swimming pool and health club is first class. I would highly discourage renting a car, no parking anywhere and driving a little crazy. Location of hotel is not near shops or restaurants so taxi or subway necessary to get to downtown or other sites. Same for restaurants, only one about 2 blocks away. Taxis are bad but subway only $3 anywhere. The city itself is a bit grimy but the people are almost universally helpful and friendly. The historical sites are amazing. You can often find unofficial guides at the sites and strike a rate there. We were fortunate and had no smog.

Too expensive. Luxury pricing for business hotel
This is a perfectly fine hotel to stay in if you have business at Peking University of one of the many in this area. It is nothing special, but certainly nice enough. It is too expensive for what it is.

Great Peking University location
PROS: decent wifi, beautiful lobby, well-maintained, very nice gardens and health club, good hotel restaurant, clean rooms with many modern amenities, shower drains well (fairly uncommon in China), good and prompt laundry service, easy access to Peking University, close to East Gate metro station, good A/C CONS: a little difficulty with English with some of the front counter staff, 1000RMB deposit at check-in, expensive minibar, not close to main Beijing tourist sites (but easily accessible by metro), off-site restaurants and shopping about 15-20min walk OVERALL: Very nice hotel, above-average relative to other Beijing hotels (with requisite pricing), great for work/play around Peking University but not as a homebase for other Beijing sites.

Room was large. Airconditioning was too hot so I turned it off and resorted to opening the window (smog wasn't too bad). Minimal English spoken so dealing with issues like gluten free food was a challenge. The hotel felt sterile

Convenient to PKU and Tsinghua, but that's all
In principle this is a nice new hotel, built around 2005/6 maybe. But it's already showing signs of decline. The bathroom sink leaked water from the drain onto the floor, and the shower drain was blocked (so also flooded water all over the bathroom floor). The room carpet looks like a herd of cattle recently passed through (with digestive disorder). And I discovered on the last morning of my stay that the electronic lock on the room door hadn't been locking itself as I left the room (I don't know if it had been like that throughout my stay - but anyway, nothing was stolen from my room). Internet connection is free, but gets really slow during the evening hours. Staff were attentive and helpful, and most spoke sufficient English.

A nice place to stay in Beijing
It is located next to Peking University and next to some very accessible streets (if this is possible in Beijing). I found the hotel well kept and the staff very helpful and friendly. I enjoyed staying there very much and made my stay in Beijing very comfortable.

Non-smoking policy
The hotel staff is afraid of enforcing non-smoking policy. Consequently, some guests violate the non-smoking rule and force other non-smokers to inhale smokes. The hotel also strangely provides ash tray in non-smoking rooms, a total contraditory message to guests in non-smoking rooms. The hotel is very conveniently located near the #4 subway station "Peking U East Gate", and the room charge is not cheap when comparing with USA standard.

I needed to go to another location on the day that I checked out (checkout at noon), and I asked the hotel if they could hold my luggage till the 3-4 in the afternoon but they refused. This was an inconvenience. I had to haul my suitcases around the whole day. You would think that a hotel of this caliber could have made some accommodations.

Lakeview hotel
The hotel is in good shape. The services are acceptable for Chinese hotels. I was locked out due to the shortage of battery of auto lock system. There is no key hole that the managment can open. So I had to wait for 40 miunutes to get in till they change the entir door key system, which is technical flaw by design. The bed mattress is firm and blanket is comfortable. They provide tooth brush and past. The breakfast is outrageously expenisve so better off eating outside. There is garbage burning factory nearby so there is smoke from burning garbages or some manfacturing. Some intrudes into the room so you may sniff and be suprized as if there are burning in the hotel. Overall the air quality is terrrible in Beijing. It is 3-4 minute walk to the nearby subway station. Peking Uni is just adjacent to the hotel. So you may want explore the campus and go to the cafeteria.

Lake View Hotel. Beijing, China
Hotel desk staff not proficient enough in English. I received the wrong bill and it took an Asian colleague to sort out the problem. Minibar prices are unreasonable, even for minibar prices. Breakfast, although very expensive, was excellent. Buffet style included both English and Chinese cuisine items.

Wonderful Hotel - Hard to find
It was a wonderful hotel. The only problem was the taxi driver could not find the hotel. The solution is to make sure you go to the hotel web site and get a map to the hotel in Chinese for the taxi drivers. They call these taxi cards and most of the hotels have them available on their web sites

Nice hotel
Good location if you want to be close to PKU / Tsinghua University/Summer Palace. Otherwise, it's a 30 minute subway ride into central Beijing - not really a problem, as the subway is only a few minutes walk away and is cheap and easy to use. The restaurants are very pricy, and the one they call the coffee shop is not very good. But the fitness facilities are great - especially the pool - and my guest rooms was as nice as I've had in any 4/5star hotel anywhere - in fact, among the nicest.
