"Specific situation: We arrived after 9pm and had to wait for the room to be checked before we could check in, apparently they were checking to see if the carpet was still wet. We eventually left our bags and went to get some food because restaurants close at 10pm. Came back around 10:30pm and went up to room. It had an unpleasant smell, but we figured that was because of the recent carpet cleaning. Turned out we discovered the next day that the carpet was saturated beside one of the beds, which was the cause of the smell. Really disappointed that we were given a room that was less than acceptable after we were made to wait while someone "checked" it. The upgrade charge was removed as compensation, but it was incredibly disappointing to be put in this situation to begin with.
Overall, front desk was consistently understaffed (usually 1 person on the desk) with no one else around at concierge or front door. Not easy to get help or quick answers. Room was not thoroughly cleaned, upon arrival there was a hair clip in the bathroom that wasn't ours, and garbage behind the side table which we discovered when we moved it. Only one of 2 beds was made for us during the stay."
