If you're happy staying in a friendly pub, convenient for walking around Chester, then definitely consider the Golden Eagle. The room itself was a good size, clean, with a decent shower room, with its own individual decor. It's not a clinical hotel chain sort of place - it's what you'd expect from a pub - so expect to be able to hear the background noise of a bar if you're in your room at night. But it's a pub with character and we enjoyed a drink when we returned from eating out. Breakfast was good - you have a choice of cooked or continental, and they like to know the night before so they can serve you it at the agreed time in the morning. Really enjoyed our stay.

Golden Eagle stay
Lovely pub itself with great selection of beers, comfy armchairs to relax in too. The breakfast was the best we’d had in Chester (full English). Tuesday was also steak or burger night, cooked to perfection. Our room (no.1) was spotless and comfortable. Staff were friendly and really helpful. Definitely will stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at The Golden Eagle. Friendly and accommodating staff- thanks Martin for carrying our bags up, and very nice meals, helped us have a terrific start. The pub is so close to the town, the wall and the museums, that everything was easy to get to. Breakfast was bespoke to our needs and was top class. Thanks.

The Golden Eagle was in a great location. We stayed overnight in a double room. It was a lovely room with character and nice decor. The bed was comfortable and the room and en-suite was spotlessly clean! The only negatives was, it was just a tad too dark with low lighting but restful all the same.The pub below was great, full of character, quaint and a pleasure to drink in. The landlord and landlady who ran the property and pub were really friendly! The breakfast that was included with the room was Amazing! It was a full English breakfast with a lovely vegetarian option and plenty of coffee!

Great Location
Lovely old pub in a perfect location for all the Chester attractions, including the race course. Room was comfortable, but cold. In fairness to the owner, we could have moved rooms, but we expected the room to warm up once the heating was on. The breakfast was excellent along with the hospitality. Would recommend.

Good value for money. The bar is quirky and we loved the decor. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was exceptional. The room was a little tired, and there was some noise from the bar below, as to be expected, but none the less it was a very enjoyable stay.

The pub was very friendly but old and outdated which was the intended look I think - the room was small and darkly decorated in keeping with the overall vision but it was clean - However the bed depicted in the advertised photo is an old iron bed ….which even to sit on creaked and was noisy - hence every time you turn or move position you are wakened by the bed frame noise. The mattress was comfortable though. Landlord was very accommodating and friendly and breakfast was a hearty start to the day. A clean oldy worldy pub in a good position up a side street away from the bustle and noise of the main road yet close to amenities

Wow, what a gem for a short stay in Chester. Three rooms situated above the Public House. Warm welcome by the landlord, check-in at 2pm and the room was ready. Quirky, clean and comfortable room. Large bathroom with walk-in shower. Had a few drinks in the pub downstairs which has a friendly and relaxed feel, prices are reasonable. The icing on the cake was breakfast, full English cooked fresh and presented very well. Toast and jams, coffee and tea, juices. Would definately stay again and would recommend.

Five stars alone for the fact your staying above a pub But actually five stars for the cleanliness of the rooms and the bar area. For the lovely level of service from all the staff… from breakfast to drinks at the bar. The great tasting and wonderful value, of Tuesday night steak and chips A real proper well looked after pub with the addition of lovely and quirky rooms all held together by great, caring staff

We stayed at this hotel as we were going to the races. The hotel is only a short walk from the racecourse, it was very comfotable and had everything that you needed. The staff were excellent, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast was fantastic too. A very reasonably priced hotel, perfect for what we needed on our trip.

Great little Pub with Rooms
Managed to park right opposite in the University car park for £5 as it was a weekend and stayed till 9am Monday morning when the staff arrive. Could hardly be more convenient for the town, and Martin the Landlord who said something like he 'didn't really think he was very good at running a pub' was obviously not being entirely truthful as the place was very appealing, the room very pleasant and though we didn't partake as we had other plans, the bar was had plenty of old school charm and the food looked pretty good, as was the breakfast (Martin's personal creation). We didn't manage to complete our exploration of Chester and its walls as the weather was a bit iffy so we plan to go back. No brainer as to where we'll stay, especially as it's such good value for money. Thanks Martin.
