Hotel Alice At Atlantic Beach

8/10 Good

"Our stay at Hotel Alice started on a high note. Check-in was impressive. The staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The location is another big plus; only about 100 yards from the beach. Unfortunately, that’s where our smooth experience ended and our housekeeping saga began. After two days of beach time, some sand naturally built up in our room. Nothing dramatic. I stopped by the front desk and politely asked if housekeeping could do a quick sweep. They asked if we could be out for several hours to fit their schedule. Wanting to help, we adjusted our plans and stayed out all afternoon. Five hours later, we returned. No housekeeping. We saw housekeeping cleaning rooms in the hallway. "Perfect," we thought. We tossed our suits inside and headed back out, certain we were next. Four hours later. Still no housekeeping. Now, 48 hours later, I'm writing this while staring at a floor with enough sand to qualify as a beachfront extension. At this point Room 302 is the closest beach access in the hotel. Looking for seashells? Start here before the actual shoreline. We took every precaution. Shoes came off at the door. We tried to contain the invasion. But without housekeeping, sand achieved total dominance. We're one tide cycle away from being added to local beach maps. That said, staff were wonderful at check-in, the location is fantastic, and we enjoyed our stay."

"Loved the proximity to the beach! The gazebo is also nice to sit in and listen to the ocean. The room was very nice and comfortable. We loved swimming in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub. Breakfast was great every morning too! They had lots of options! Would recommend. We will stay here again!"

"I love this hotel for its amenities and friendly staff. The rooms are really clean for being a beach hotel. I’ve been to some that still have sand everywhere and this locations cleanliness is top tier. They allow you to use the pool and park if you arrive early. They have beach chairs you can sign out for use."

"I don't know the history of this hotel, but it definitely presents as a renovated old hotel. Dirty throughout the hallways and in our room. Room was moldy smelling and if I had been staying any more than one night I would have asked for a refund and went to a different hotel. The location is great which is why I booked. Just not a great place for allergy sufferers."

"Wow, this place is perfect. We stayed in the courtyard room and it was clean, mattresses were comfy, AC was cold, and the walk to the beach was so short! I have stayed in beach front cottages that have longer walks. we arrived a little early but our room was ready so they let us check in. The door is weighted so don't lock yourself out without memorizing the code! Perfect place to enjoy a beach trip with your honey and your pup. they neighbors all had trucks and started a game of corn hole and just drank some beers together. It was very wholesome. No frills, great showers, clean, a spot to eat takeaway, and fridge and microwave. Perfect!"

"Overall, the stay was fine. The property was clean and the room was sufficient. However, we had a very unpleasant experience with a staff member named Phil, we believe (he would not actually give us his name, we had to ask another staff member). My colleague and I were staying the night in advance of a work event the following day. Everything was proceeding fine until our smoke detector started beeping at 5:30am and giving us a "low battery" message. We called the front desk and were told that someone would come up in 20 minutes. 20 minutes passed and no one arrived. We called again at about 6am and someone (Phil) finally came up. He walked into our room, flipped the massive overhead light on, did not greet us, did not offer an apology, started tinkering with the detector. He had not even brought extra batteries with him, which seemed like an obvious solution. So he had to leave and come back. He switched out the batteries and immediately went to leave. My colleague asked if he would mind staying to make sure the beeping had actually stopped. He said no. He left. The detector started beeping again. My colleage called him back. He came back in twice to try to fix the issue, cursing under his breath the entire time. He never actually fixed the issue, and did not offer an apology or a solution. My colleague went downstairs at one point and asked if we could at least switch rooms. He said no. She asked for a partial refund. He said no. It was all insanely rude."
