The hot tub and pool area were clean and the temperature was perfect. The room was clean as were the bathroom. The issue I have is we had two adults and to kids in our room and by the 3rd person we were out of hot water.

The Chief is a “motor court” style motel. The room was very clean, the shower , TV, coffee maker , etc worked as expected. The owner was friendly and helpful. The only negative comment I have is that outside the building was a large collection of mops, buckets, etc that detracted from the overall appearance of the property.

The Chief Motel in Custer South Dakota was a gem of a motel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The motel is centrally located, there are several breweries and downtown is within walking distance, and the Putple Pie Place is across the street.

Just stayed in Custer the one night. Very nice place with a warm pool and hot tub that works and a sauna that works. Very friendly guy thay checked me in and a wonderful old lady that loved to tell me stories. Will stay here again.

Property is very old, but as clean as could be. Cannot beat the value for a two bedroom room, but it should be noted there is no fan or AC to the second bedroom. Staff is very helpful and the location is great for downtown Custer.

At check in Bruce was super helpful, giving a short tour of things to see in the area. This place serves up a super comfortable bed, microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker. You have your own parking spot in front of your room. There is also an indoor pool and hot tub. Very convenient location in Custer! Clean, convenient and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again when in the area.

The motel was in a great location- close to restaurants, bars, and in the main drag in Custer. We visited the hot tub nearly every night and had it all to ourselves, which was quite nice. Beds were better than most and room was clean. It’s an older property but maintained. Everything worked, but the ac was loud and one person showering used up most of the hot water. It was nice having the ability to park near the room. Bruce was friendly and helpful at check in. The only negatives were that we were awoken at 5am by a truck backing up. I believe it may have been a garbage truck at the property next door. Fortunately that only happened once during our 4 day stay. Also the parking area on the side of the property is pretty narrow and one day there was a landscaping truck making it interesting to park our vehicle. I would recommend this motel to travelers based on our experience. I would also stay here again.
