"The Horison Hotel in close to the sea front in Ayr There is council parking opposite the main hotel entrance which we were told by reception is free all day. The hotel is an old building which is being refurbished.
We were allocated a large room at the rear of the hotel which was recently decorated. It had a new bathroom, new carpet and the bed was large and comfortable. The noise was minimal and the TV worked well. Breakfast was included - however we felt this was rather basic for the high room rate.
We were also charged and extra £30 for the dog which seems excessive as the rate for the room was high at £150/night. We ate dinner elsewhere which was cheaper.
I would rate this hotel mid range 3 Star."
"A short distance outside Troon. Peaceful country place. Doors quite loud when closing. Small gap on shower door allows some shower spray to wet outside floor. Inside room lock did not work.
Overall peaceful stay"
"A beautiful hotel with friendly helpful staff. Food in the restaurant was delicious and presented beautifully Our room was lovely, if a bit small. Unfortunately, we were cold as the weather had turned damp and windy, and the room felt damp. So for our one night stay we didn’t sleep well.
Perhaps, in future, a small amount of heat to air the room and bed prior to a stay would be good housekeeping."
"A great location for this hotel with lovely views from the rooms. The food is excellent, both the dinners and the cooked breakfasts, and staff are friendly and helpful. Just a few tweaks would make things even better:
1. The music in the restaurant and, especially the bar, is too loud and intrusive
2. The pastries at breakfast were stale
3. In both our rooms a handyman was needed as the grab rails in both bathrooms were coming away from the wall and there were parts missing from the shower controls
4. The spa massage treatment was great but changing room facilities weren't so good with inadequate locker space and little room to change.
Apart from those minor reservations we would be very happy to return!"
"Older decently kept property. Stairs were an issue for my disabled husband but we managed. Never could get the tv to work. Lots of animal, I suspect cat waste in the gravel leading to the entrance."
