"This house had everything a large family could want. A secluded (but not isolated), beautiful large yard both front and back. A river, bamboo forest, old growth trees and large covered porch with ample seating and table. I wish we had longer to stay to enjoy a nice campfire in their rustic fire pit. It looks like a great fishing spot as well though I didn't have time to try. Shopping wasn't to far away so a plus there as well. The house itself was large had a nice sized kitchen, family room...

"Everything was going great until we left to enjoy the area for a couple hours. Cleaning staff, kids yelling and a bunch of clanking going on apparently was stressing my shih-tzus. They did start barking. I was called and told there had been multiple complaints about their barking. This is a pet friendly hotel, and others dogs were barking during our stay. I do believe one guest probably complained a couple times, enough to take your fifth star away. My fun was cut short, and I ended up staying in my room listening to banging and kids screaming for the remainder of my stay. I paid a pet deposit, in a pet friendly hotel. I would have expected that those with pets would have been put in locations with other pet owners, not near some anti-pet moron, calling because of some minor barking due to the other noises being generated near our room. Hey, dogs bark. Otherwise it was a nice place, good breakfast, good location. O"

Chetola Resort

"Food’s on you For my 80th birthday, we decided to splurge and stay in a suite at Chetola resort from Monday to Friday. When booking, we were warned that the restaurant would not open until Thursday – the birthday - and made a reservation for that night. The concierge said that “bar food”, such as hamburgers, would be available all the other nights, and breakfast, while not included, every morning. Not true. No bar food the night we arrived or any other night, although the desk personnel didn’t seem to know it and even promised us a menu. We expressed our frustration and were comped a breakfast, at which we learned future breakfasts were out, and our dinner was in question. They’d let us know “in a minute.” Four hours later, we learned we’d have to go elsewhere. Our refrigerator didn’t work, and all the ice machines were broken, so nothing that could spoil. The cleaner offered to bring us cold cokes from the vending machine. The house phone didn’t work. We still heard a lot of excuses. Blowing Rock is beautiful, with lots to do, and we had a great vacation. Chetola is beautiful. Our room is beautiful. We could see waterfowl and planets from our balcony. We enjoyed the large indoor swimming pool, and others may enjoy the hot tub and spa amenities. Hopefully, management will get their act together and solve the problems, but first, stop misleading guests."

2/10 Terrible

"Three was nothing good about this facility, long term tenants drinking, smoking weed, blocking stairwells..more like a dope hotel. Room was disgusting, floors were so dirty , cleaned with bath towel that was brown when done. Bed platform had all kinds of filth in it all the way around. Bathroom door would not shut, falling off hinges. Light fixtures on wall falling off. Pool had bandaids and debri floating in it, disgusting. Would never book again, ever. I'm a drag racer and I can handle cheap, this is below that with a high price. My wife was appalled. Wish I could post pictures"

"This has been by far the worst experience I’ve ever experienced. They charged $100 for an incidental fee at check in, which they have not released back to me. I travel for work and stayed alone. I have tried numerous times to get someone on the phone to find out why they are not refunding my money and they put me hold and outright hang up on me. Very poor customer service and management. All together bad for business. I took photos as I do in every hotel I stay in just in case this happens."

Fairfield Inn & Suites Bristol

"My husband and daughter spent the night here. They had a brief, but comfortable stay. Two recommendations: 1) Somehow they wound up in the hearing impaired room. The shower curtain did not reach to the floor, and it was very difficult to keep the water from getting out onto the floor in the bathroom during a shower. Finding a longer shower curtain or another method to contain the water would be suggested. 2) Also, the kitchen staff was very helpful with my daughter’s dietary needs, because she is gluten-free. There were some options offered to her, which was terrific! One downside is that flour is apparently added to the scrambled eggs as a thickener. I am not sure if this was clearly labeled (or not). Using ZERO flour, or switching to a gluten-free flour, would be an easy swap that would accommodate EVERYONE. Ending on a high note, the coffee was excellent, so they were grateful for that blessing!"

10/10 Excellent

"The entire stay was pleasant. Clean room, very pleasant staff, breakfast had a lot of choices like hot eggs, sausage, pancakes and waffles as well as various pastries and beverages. One negative is that the pool water was very cloudy even tho it had a high bleach odor."
