Just wonderful! The hotel manager Anna was so welcoming and hospitable, the room and breakfast were an absolute wow! Super dogfriendly too, we will definitely be back, highly recommend!

Our first stay in Durham was superb! Everything was just perfect and the love our springer spaniel Maddie got (including a cooked doggie breakfast!) was amazing! Thank you to Anna and her wonderful team, we will be back!

Beautiful place to stay
This is a lovely place to stay. It was exceptionally clean. We enjoyed our breakfast that was served promptly. The breakfasts provide gluten free food as well as a variety of choices. The hotel has been modernised to a high standard. Our only concern was our double room being the attic there wasn't sufficient height to the ceiling for my husband who is 6ft 4inches. He could walk down the centre of the room and the shower was too low. I think if we had stayed more than the 1 night we would have asked if we could swap rooms. But overall a beautiful place to stay. Just ask about room height if you are taller than my height, 5ft 4in.

Very nice stay. Room was lovely with great views. Short walking distance to Durham bars and restaurants. Breakfast was good and staff very friendly. Only issues we had and it’s really nitpicking but the car park and walk up to the reception was pitch black when we arrived and couldn’t see where we were walking. Also there was some work being done to the property as we were leaving and the loading vehicle blocked the exit so we had to wait 10 minutes. Like I say though, that’s being very picky. Lush place.

Excellent hotel, with a personal touch
This is hafway between a bread and breakfast and a hotel. On the B&B side, it is quirky with rooms carved out of a historic building. They have done this very well. Reception is not full time but ‘on demand’, but service was quick. On the hotel side, it is professionally run and breakfast is outstanding. Service is excellent - very friendly people. Parking can be a bit of a nuisance in Durham, but this hotel has enough spaces. Although the hotel is old, the rooms are well maintained. Bed was comfy and shower great. My only gripe is the headroom on the top floor - if you are over 6ft tall, you are better off on a lower floor as the ceilings are low in places.

Really nice people in a nice comfortable guest house rather than a full service hotel. Much better option than an impersonal modern chain hotel, even though only half board, although the breakfasts were great. However, there is a very good small Indian restaurant and bar on the ground floor through the garden doors, where we had a really good evening meal on one night. We would certainly go back, as it's our sort of place to stay.

Great stay
Had a great stay breakfast was lovely great gluten free option available. Room was lovely except we were in the attic and work was being done on the roof. The bathroom window was not fixed down so there was a bit of debris on the floor and there were quite a few flies. It didn't detract from the stay and the view was amazing

Welcomed by a lovely lady on Reception. Property clean and comfortable throughout. We had the attic room which has low ceilings but was full of character. A steady walk into Durham City. Great breakfast too. I would stay again and recommend to others.

The room on first sight looked very quaint as it was up in the eves of the roof but after a short while i felt as though i was walking with a stoop to avoid the ceiling. Not sure how two people would cope in the room. Breakfast was delayed and i only got my tea when i was ajoit to leave.

My daughter and I stayed here whilst on a short trip to visit the University. I'd already exchanged emails with Anna at the hotel and she'd been really helpful and super lovely. When we arrived, we were greeted and shown to our room. Room was lovely and clean, a nice size for the two of us and the beds were comfy. The breakfast room was lovely- laid out with a good choice of items to help ourselves too and then we had a menu to choose our hot options (we both had a lovely Full English) There is a restaurant in the grounds of the hotel- we had a drink there in the evening but no food as we were still full from our lunch. We'd definitely eat there if we went back again. The chap behind the bar was lovely and friendly and chatted to us a while about the city and the area etc. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk into town and actually quite a pleasant walk. If my daughter chooses Durham University then this is definitely where me and the family will stay when we visit.

Blown away!
I chose this hotel quite by chance & what a gem it turned out to be. Perfect for a 1-night stopover whilst at work. Very clean, comfy and great location & views of Durham. I had a great sleep and hearty breakfast - amazing value and I would definitely recommend. Thank you to Anna & the team for a great stay and accommodating my late check-in!

Lovely, quirky guesthouse good location.
Beautifully decorated building with lots of colour and a really quirky atmosphere. Spacious, comfortable room with good shower. Sitting in the dining room was like sitting in the jungle! Good, friendly service and an excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Good location to walk into Town and if you don't fancy the uphill walk back plenty of buses. Would definitely stay again next time we go to Durham.

Loved every minute of it

The room was shabby, very poorly lit and in need of a good clean and refurbishment. Breakfast was a disaster. It took over an hour to get served, the power was out in the kitchen, Even so several tables that arrived after us, were served before us, the breakfast staff had no idea how to serve and were totally dis-organised & confused. We will not be returning.

Hi LainThankyou for taking the time to leave feedback. i have spoken to the staff that were on that morning for breakfast and they tell me the power did go out for around 15 mins but everyone got served quickly after however it did cause some delay due to the next time slot arriving unfortunately power cuts are out of our hands.I have checked the room you stayed in and it is Victorian style in tune with the house and is not as you said shabby but aged to compliment the age of the building.You say also there was cleanliness issues yet non of these things you brought to our attention while here? if i was staying somewhere and i was not happy i would immediately say something not go away and review 6 weeks after i had left.RegardsManager
