The breakfast was supposed to be included but we were informed on Sunday morning that we had only paid for the room.
The booking confirmation didn’t mention the breakfast as well, however, the room has been advertised differently on Expedia website.
Really nice and friendly service, hotel a little dated but some would like that, we only went here as it was the only one available, but would recommend to people who are in the area of portsmouth and need a cozy place to stay

Liked nothing especially the alreay slept in bed!!!!
It’s a budget hotel so the accommodation reflects that. However overall value for money yes. It was a same day short notice booking and was £20 cheaper than any other nearby hotel. I left feeling it had been pleasant enough with no complaints. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Budget hotel budget rooms and service.
Basic room and bathroom in need of refurbishment. Ideally located on Main Street. Not much to offer from the kitchen for evening meals but traditional breakfast was good.

This place is cheap and clean, but very limited by it's historical architecture which meant the single room I stayed in had a shared communal shower and separate bathroom. Probably suffering staff shortages due to the Covid pandemic, but I thought there would be a breakfast - when I went downstairs all the kitchens were closed.
Unfortunately due the lockdown associated with Covid-19 this Pub/Hotel was nothing like the images and description on Hotels.com or its own website. We couldn't fault the small band of staff on duty who attended to our every need. The place needed a good clean and the rooms needed redecorating and the furniture renewing. There was no wifi or in room TV and the soap, shampoo and shower gel were multi use and therefore not Covid-19 secure having been purchased from ALDI!
Arrived at 3pm to check in. There were problems with the room. Curtain rail needed to be refitted, and TV not working. Had to wait 1 hour for the to fix curtain rail, before we could use the room. No wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes. Room no 5 is above bar, so the noise from the bar was very loud and did not go quiet until gone 11.30pm. Not ideal if you want an early night. Curtain fell off window next morning.
Was only opened the week we arrived after lock down. Just needs some TLC by the new owners and maybe better judged in a couple of months. Chef couldn’t do more for us and did a great fish and chips.
When we arrived there was no one there to welcome us I had to phone the manager who texted me a code to operate the door, then the smell hit me ,a filthy flight of stairs, a maze of filthy corridors
The room was tiny with a double and single bed squashed in,the pillows were filthy as was the tiny bathroom
We did not stay we walked straight back out
We then had to find another hotel which cost us £350
This was supposed to be a special trip as I had been ill lately
It was heartbreaking
And I cannot get hold of anyone to get my money back
This hotel needs to be reported to the health inspector as it is not fit to be stayed in
I did not take photographs as I could not get out quick enough because it was stinking
How you can even have this hotel on your books I do not know
You should be ashamed
Sadly disappointing! I knew I had booked a basic no frills single room with shared facilities but the bed linen was unironed and not even tucked in.
There was a TV in the room, but there was no mains lead or aerial and the remote (the wrong one) had no batteries. When informed to the proprietor she did bring alead, find a remote but the aerial was a mobile thing balanced in the window so the picture (?) was unwatchable.
Although May, the weather was cold, and upon asking about heating she informed me the system was down, but she did bring an electric heater - a shame I had to ask.
I think this also affected the hot water supply as the shower was cold.
Breakfast was acceptable - tea/coffee (1 mug) Full english (available) and slice of toast - no cereal, fruit or fruit juice.
Sadly the place, although appearing Olde Worlde, lacked any atmosphere. It struck me that it was obvioulsy a great place in its day but some "Guru" had wine bar'd it and ruined it!
Very old pub hotel in need of updating. Too many cobwebs!
Paying on arrival meant too late to choose alternative. No en-suite . Small shower in corridor. Building work in progress making everywhere dusty in lounges.
Although the staff were friendly & helpful, the room was very poorly maintained & standards of cleanliness left a lot to be desired for the price paid (over £70)
Awoken in the night multiple times by deliveries & persons above.
The keys on wooden spatulas were unacceptable for anywhere apart from a petrol station lavatory!
Had this been a stay in a Premier Inn, a full refund would have been provided

The property was very clean and staff very friendly. Explained everything and showed everything. However there is a bar on the ground flow and it was a little bit to loud.
Dated decor, needs a complete redecoration. Building is stuck in a time warp, it needs an injection of ideas to bring it up to standard expected of today’s travellers.
Out dated, bathroom needed a good clean, hall way smelt, and the side of the property needed a good clean.
Breakfast cost £9.50. nothing special, don't bother with it go somewhere else,
Always good to support local places rather than the nation wide travel lodges of this world...very interesting place with bags of character and a warm welcome...bed could have been comfier would be my only gripe, apart from that, great place to stay...thanks for having us!
This is a very old building, lots of wood beam walls and floors and twisted or sloping surfaces in the building structure. Corridors, walls and doorways reflect the age of the building and many decades of use. Tgat is all part of the character of The Bugle.
The room was warm and comfortable and the bathroom actually had a bath (versus just a shower). Thee was plenty of hot water when it was needed.
The (optional) breakfast was freshly cooked to order and arrived on a HUGE plate. It set me up for the day.
bed springs creaked everytime I moved. Cheap modern wardrobe sloped so much clothes slid to 1 end of wardrobe, which was totally out of character of property Found half used shampoo sachet in bathroom,so room not cleaned very well after last guests.Staff said bed was due to be replaced. Expensive for the poor standard of the room. Not what I expected from an historical hotel.Could be so much better.

Dont be deceived....
The property info leaves you with an impression youll have an apartment with somewhere to lounge and a kitchen when in fact only 1 unit has this. In reality its a really basic room with barely space for a double bed
Liveable for a night but not for anything more.
Rooms situated on top of a public house which does all drinks and good food. Had a good nights sleep and also a couple of evenings having a couple of drinks at the bar after eating.
