It is with great sadness that we have to report the worst treatment we have ever had in our 20 years of traveling, the last 10 as Expedia VIP Gold members. We booked a day earlier at Hotel Garni Brunnthaler than intended and attempted for 24 hours beforehand to remedy this with the extremely helpful assistance of the Expedia agents. We finally got through to reception (which inexplicably closed the night before) and was told that all is order and that they will make the adjustment when we come through. We drove for 3 hours straight across Bavaria to be told on arrival that they have changed their minds. Not only did we now forfeit the first night we now owed them even more if we wanted to stay. We expressed our dismay at this and reception started shouting at us in German knowing full well that we are English speaking. The shouting got so bad we had to walk away until the husband of the receptionist came and mansplained to us that it was our ‘tough luck’. We decided to overnight (we had already paid). Still traumatized and very upset we left first thing the next morning. What a terrible experience!

Dear Hermanus,unfortunalety we reconized some misinformation in your feedback which we have to correct. First of all you booked last minute at 9pm. for the same day. According to our telephone records, someone tried to call us at 11pm. That is long after our working hours. Before we close our reception at 9:30 pm we even tried to contact you by phone and we sent you details and instructions for late arrival over expedia messages without recieving any response from you.As you arrived the next day you informed us that you booked the wrong dates and demanded to change your reservation mistake free of charge in a very arrogant and unfriendly manner. Your Expedia VIP Gold membership doesnt entitle you to change your booking dates as you wish and this free of charge. When you dont arrive on your booked date, this is a no show for us and we are entitled to charge you for the night. Second of all, we would never allow ourselves to shout at guests and our English is good enough to communicate so we dont have to use German. We kindly asked you to wait in our lobby until the owner comes, so we can attend the other guests who were waiting to check in. We can proudly say that our staff friendliness is explicitly mentioned in almost all our reviews. We hope that you book the correct dates for your next trip so you dont get traumatized and upset again.

Very nice property and staff; they even went above and beyond by advising us the sunroof in our rental car was open and rain was expected. They were sooo correct; it poured. We would have been trying to explain the pool inside the rental car if not for the hotel staff looking out for us.

Good place for weekend stay
Skiing trip. Hotel location is good. At night, it was noisy due to other guests coming back late and doors insufficiently sealing. Dated interiors but very nice staff, good sauna.

Comfortable boutique hotel in G-P. Easy access to sights in the Bavarian Alps. Good size rooms. Parking a little tight, but they have an underground garage. Henri, the owner, is a great host. Was very helpful with guiding us to sights.

Wonderful hotel surrounded by mountains
The hotel was in an excellent location with a short walk into town for the restaurants and shops. The breakfast was very tasty and offered something for everyone. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I can’t wait to return next year!

Relaxing Quiet in the mountains
Very nice small quiet place with a great view of the Alps. My girlfriend and I stayed here 2 nights. Very walkable to shops and food. 5 minute walk to train station. Great breakfast and extremely kind workers

Pleasant hotel near the heart of Garmisch
Very pleasant hotel with wonderful staff. A bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of cold water were waiting for me in my room, which was clean and spacious. The property is nicely maintained, and the breakfast room had plenty of tables. Relaxing on my balcony in late afternoon with a book and a view of the mountains was fantastic. I would stay here again.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room had a nice patio area. The room was fairly large for the low cost. The hotel is easy walking distance to both the train station and the restaurant/tourist area. I'm guessing this is a more traditional hotel, since we got a physical key instead of a key card, and we had to ring the doorbell to get in initially. I'm not sure if there was an elevator. The checkout time was a bit early - 10:30 - but they didn't mind keeping our bags for most of the day.

Comfortable small hotel with convenient location
I stayed here for four nights. The (single) room was small but comfortable, and the wifi was fast and stable. The breakfast was excellent and the hotel staff were helpful. The hotel is close (5-10 minute walk) to both the train station and the center of town. One note: they do not have someone at the check-in desk 24 hours/day, so if you need to leave early in the morning, it's probably a good idea to settle the bill the night before - I had to leave at 6.30am to catch a train, and fortunately one of the staff was awake and could handle the checkout, but I think if I'd been half an hour earlier it might have been a problem.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Garni. From the moment we pulled up,easy parking, the welcome at the front desk, the clean comfortable room, the rain shower, the sauna, the smilig face when you walk in for breakfast to the last we hope you enjoyed your stay. Wonderful! Easy walk into town.

Wonderful stay!
I chose to spend 4 nights here, as I was looking for a place close to hiking trails near this region. I came away very satisfied with my choice. Pros included: train station and restaurants just a 5-10 minute walk away, comfortable room, cozy sitting area next to the garden with a tasty breakfast. Another highlight was the charming owner Mr. Brunnthaler, who was very engaging and spent quite some time chatting with me. He offered me tips on public transportation/hiking options, and arranged for me to be able to get breakfast early, before the 8-10am scheduled time. One potential negative to keep in mind is the lack of air-conditioning/temperature control for the summer. Tip: get a room with a balcony - great views of the surrounding mountains, and you can open the balcony door to be more comfortable. I would happily stay here again on a future visit.

Nice place to stay
The hotel is in a quiet area, yet close to the "action". Friendly and helpful staff. Worth the money. Henry, the owner, speaks excellent English, so communication is no problem. WIFI is weak in the room, but if you go to the comfortable sitting area, it is strong. Hotel Garni has a rustic feel, which, in my opinion, gives it a more welcoming feel than your standard hotel. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely stay there again.

Owner very dedicated to the guests who rememembered our questions about going to Mt. Zugspitze when we checked-in. He then checked the weather on the peak for us next morning through the internet and reminded us to leave the hotel on time to catch the next available train. At our request, he allowed us to take earlier breakfast to catch our train on the morning we left. We were very impressed by his attitude towards serving his customers. Highly recommend people staying at this hotel.

We arrived late afternoon. There was on site parking. The room had a balcony with a mountain view. It was located in a quiet neighborhood but very close to the main downtown shopping area. We only stayed one night but we would come back if in the area again. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

Good value at £55 per night ensuite including great breakfast breakfast. Very nice people to deal with. A few limitations: - hotel lacks lounge to sit in front of the fire after hard days skiing - the room I stayed in had a kind of laminate floor which made it the opposite of cosy and reminded me of secure units I have worked in!

Our fifth and best trip to Garmisch
We were in easy walking distance to the train station, great restaurants and car rentals. Peter Brunthaller could not have been nicer and provided us with warm hospitality, Bavarian breakfast and helpful tips on where to go and how to get there during our weeks stay. We will come there again.

Quiet, clean with charm located near the best part of Garmish. Easy walk to the great restaurants. Family run, very helpful. Stayed four nights while touring the castles and old world charms of Bavaria. Easy to access, central location. Will stay again.

Fantastic room. Fantastic view.
We originally booked three days here but liked it so much we extended to six days. Our room was big, clean and comfortable, but even better it had a balcony facing Zugspitze mountain. Great views every morning. This is a family run hotel and the owners obviously care about the experience they provide for their guests. Staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions and ideas for trips, and even provided umbrellas in case of rain. Nothing was too much trouble. If we find ourselves in this beautiful area of Germany in the future we'd definitely try to stay in this hotel again. Perfect!

Excellent stay
We found this hotel to be perfect! Henry and all do a great job of taking care of guests. The breakfast each morning was wonderful and he made a point to talk to the guests at every table. We are Americans and Henry was invaluable in giving us info on interesting places and the best days to do different activities; we felt right at home! The hotel is located within walking distance of downtown Garmisch, the train station, a grocery and local restaurants. We would definitely recommend to anyone and hope to go back ourselves!

Well worth the money
The hotel is in walking distance of Garmisch's downtown area. The breakfast was great, and the owners were excellent. They spoke to us each morning and asked if we rested well. They printed out a hiking route for us, too. One of the owners grew up in Garmisch, so he knows everything about the area. The only negative thing is the room decor was not modern.
