"The hotel in situated in a lovely location and we found it to be very quite we suited us nicely. We had breakfast and evening meal and we could not fault it. We normally stay in the travel lodge when we go up to Bishop Auckland but we will use the Park Head in future."

"We asked for a late check out and even though the hotel was absolutely empty - (we were the only two people at breakfast in a room that could seat 100) the hotel still denied a late checkout (personally I think 11am checkout is too early) so we were charged an extra £20 for a 12pm checkout. When the room costs £500 per night this is totally outrageous. The hotel was empty so it would have been a nice gesture to offer a 1pm checkout given at most high end hotels 12pm is standard. Very disappointing. Also in the restaurant they put a main course on the bill that we had ordered but they had accidentally not cooked so we cancelled it but it was still on the bill and was subsequently removed when I mentioned it upon paying. The staff are excellent. The spa is amazing but they cut off spa treatments at 4.45pm for last 1hr service - we only just made it and my service started a few minutes late and finished a few minutes early and when the therapist left the room to give me a moment to get on the bed she was gone for 5 minutes meaning my massage was around 50 minutes but charged as an hour. The sheets are a little low quality compared to other hotels of this caliber but the rooms are beautiful and spacious. The views from the rooms are also lovely. The room service menu is unbelievably limited, almost nothing on it but the breakfast served in the main hotel restaurant is exceptional with a special nod to the crème brule porridge."

"Everything about The George was very good but it is obviously in the midst of much needed renovations. I felt very sad because I grew up in the area and it was always such a popular hotel. However, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were all very helpful. Dinner was good, despite having to wait quite a long time for it. Good luck to the owners for the future and hope that the renovations go well."

"Location was good, amenities very good, the offsite room was slightly small for our two suitcases. When they say that parking is limited they are not wrong but it is also quite difficult to get into with a slightly bigger cast - especially for Australians already struggling with the parking in the UK 🙂. However we were lucky to find parking near the offsite room. Hotel itself is lovely and the dinner and breakfast very good. Staff were excellent."

"Poor experience at the Hotel. 1. door to room very squeaky. 2 shower was very poor, hardly any force in the water. 3 Arrange a meal and ordered Parfait/bread, which was not but Pate, along with the most greasy bread oil was oozing out the bread, returned could not eat. 4. going for breakfast, they need to take off the sausages, as stated Rare breed sausages, not sure what breed but they were horrible, not only confirmed by us but other members staying there. 5. Parking states free, this is not the case, it comes with first there, if you cannot get a parking space, you will have difficulty parking, we arrive NOT at high season, so will be extremely difficult to park anywhere. staff were quite rude too. will not be returning."

"Lovely place to stay, staff were welcoming and friendly, breakfast was delicious and luckily we got room number 7 ( the haunted room) unfortunately no ghosts.....we are definitely going back"
