Fabulous historic hotel ideally located for business in the High Wycombe area. I have previously enjoyed a great stay. The bar and restaurant were both welcoming and worth a visit even without the stay.
However unable to book by phone and ascertain the availability of the restaurant so booked online. Arrived to find the hotel in the middle of major renovations and only 2 painters in the building. Took 20 minutes for a member of staff, who was elsewhere on- site all of the time, to appear. No hot water and had to boil the kettle and use a bar of soap as a plug for the sink in order to have a shave. I know this hotel can do better. Definitely need to divert the landline to a staff member’s mobile.
Lovely stay, although the room was slightly stripped down, presumably for Covid reasons, as the four poster didn't have a canopy. Excellent food and drink provided.
I liked the authentically crooked and uneven steps and floors- this is not a renovated inn- they have kept the quirkiness and character that a building accrues over centuries of use.

This is a really nice place, and would have got a 5-star review, but for a couple of things:
1) both our shower AND bath didn't work! When we told someone, the manager (?) didn't seem overly bothered. We ended up moving to a much smaller room, which was fine, but again, it was odd that the manager wasn't apologetic or anything. She just said "It's up to you - do you want to change room", as if staying in a room with no washinf facilities was perfectly acceptable.
2) the same manager tried to tell us breakfast was not included, despite it saying "Breakfast Included" on our booking. Apparently they have changed their policy recently. She relented, but again, quite odd.
Apart from that, this place is REALLY nice! Beautiful rooms, great value, really good food, lovely garden. One of the best places of its type that we'e stayed. Most the staff were also super friendly and accomodating. Thank you!
Great service - everyone was very friendly and helpful. Fantastic food - had meals both nights. Delicious and filling. Great burgers, koftes and creme brûlée. Lovely shops and cafe across the road too
The food was outstanding. Breakfast was amazing. The staff, bar choice were all excellent. The accommodation has wear and tear but nothing that bothered us. Our room was on the front and the road noise was noticeable will we were awake. The bed was extremely comfortable so we had a great nights sleep. It’s not a 21st century PremierInn!! It’s a 16th century coaching inn without a straight floor or ceiling in the place. If we’re ever in the area again we will definitely stay here.
Very hot due to heatwave but no fan provided in room so very uncomfortable. Had to leave windows open all night but on a very noisy road so sleep was difficult. Stayed for 2 nights but after the first night room was not serviced so bed unmade, bin not emptied, not cleaned, had to use old wet bath towel I'd left on the floor the previous morning the next day. No tea bags as hadn't been replaced. Complained to staff who said she would report to manager but it's the end of the check-out day now and heard nothing. Bad customer service so likely not to book this hotel again!!
Amazing, attentive, and very welcoming staff. Staying here feels like home, all warm and cosy. Fabulous Sunday lunch, and one hell of a breakfast. This place is sure to will guests to return again and again, I can guarantee we’ll be back.
What a treat to stay in a fabulous old coaching inn. We've seen it when passing many times and now we have stayed there. The creakiness (low beams etc) is all part of the charm and there's loads of charm.

Classic Inn with great character and food
I like this place. It’s a fair old in style but has bags of character. No room seems to have an even floor but hey it’s part of the place. The beds though are always comfy.
Food is excellent well worth a visit for that in itself. Great bar with good options for all.
Best place I’ve found in the High Wycombe area to stay

Excellent value and comfort
Lovely room, small but full of character and did not impinge on what we needed to do. Beautiful towels, slept really well and topped of by a tasty breakfast.

the food is to die for
The Wifi. isn’t brilliant but 5he food is to die for . Never been disappointed
Bags of charm and plenty of old-fashioned beams and creaky floorboards make the G&D a great stop. Atmosphere plus decent beer and good food made for a terrific weekend.

I had a pleasant room. The inn is really pretty with a lovely outdoor garden. Food was okay. I left a quite early a couple of days and no breakfast was yet available. Also, the continental breakfast provided is very limited and I ended up ordering off the menu for breakfast. Service was great. I had dinner there twice - both times it was very pleasant and the food was good.
