"Hotel undergoing renovations after being a former asylum hotel. This was not clear at the time of booking. Outside the hotel is like a building site. Grounds not maintained. No restaurant or bar open even though stated available so relied on the local Coop for food and beverage. No lift so had to carry my case to the third floor. Stairs had bits of chip board on them hence no cleaning for 3 days. Faint smell of smoke throughout. Marked hand towel... query dirty. No AC so had to rely on portable...

"A truly unique and quirky hotel that is full of surprises and each bedroom is themed, even down to the books! Staff were very friendly and helpful and it's well placed for easy transport into both the city and Docklands. We had an issue with smells in our first bedroom so they moved us. The bed was large and comfortable and the air con was efficient, cooling the room down quickly. The place was very clean and my only comment is that it could do a little bit of TLC in places; our shower door leaked so we ended up with a rather wet bathroom floor that spread into the bedroom and the smaller shower head was also a bit dodgy. However, despite that I would recommend it."

"The staff were very helpful and super friendly. The hotel looks modern and has a great vibe around the reception and bar but it's let down by the restaurant. We found the food a bit lacklustre, especially given the price (and the service charge!). The rooms are showing their age, although comfortable there are some finer details that can't be improved on without a bit of refurbishment. The biggest thing for us though was the inefficiency of the air conditioning (I suspect it wasn't working at all), we spent a very warm and stuffy night in the room as we felt it was too late to inform reception and we were getting up very early for a flight. Would I stay again? Yes, but have food as a bar snack and remove the service charge and make sure that the air conditioning is working."

"Room was clean, air conditioning working (critical in the recent heatwave), bed mostly comfortable: base was two put together, mattress was one so as long as you stayed on one half you're fine but uncomfortable if you slept right in the middle. Some flooring was peeling/lifting up, but not a trip hazard yet. TV was Apple TV: remote was a little battered and slightly unresponsive/slow. Most options needed you to sign into your own account (apple/Google/BBC) (not included for free/automatically). One bedside lamp was broken. Slight confusion over breakfast, but was ironed out in the end. (Check-in staff member said it was included, but morning person seemed to say it wasn't, but then said it was complementary instead.) Check-in and check-out was quick and efficient (tablet with self service (though if staff are free they will help walk you through)."

"I was delighted with my stay here. I only stayed for one night, but I was allowed to check in early, as a room was available, and they kept my luggage for me after checkout, as I had a late flight. The room was lovely, with a very comfy bed, and block out curtains, I had one of the best sleeps I've had in ages! I'm very glad that I chose to stay here, and would happily stay again!"

"The hotel has a modern exterior, with a contemporary interior that feels up to date. It’s not in the part of London most tourists picture, but it is in a modern area that is convenient for anyone attending events at the ExCeL London conference centre. Excellent public transport links make it easy to reach central London attractions in a relatively short time. One thing worth noting is aircraft noise. Depending on the runway configuration at the nearby airport, departing planes can be heard from 7:00 a.m. On some mornings it was noticeable, while on others it was minimal depending on takeoff direction. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful throughout my stay. Housekeeping was inconsistent, likely due to time pressure. On two occasions, they accidentally left their master room-access card in my room. The complimentary canned water was also inconsistent some days two cans were provided, other days one or none, and once a can had a chewed piece of gum stuck to it. I reported this to the front desk, which simply offered a replacement water. Breakfast was good, with a standard hot and continental selection including eggs, pastries, cereals, and fruit. While fairly typical for this type of hotel, everything was, good, and regularly replenished. Overall, the hotel offers modern facilities, helpful staff, and convenient transport links into central London.However, housekeeping isn’t great and aircraft noise from around 7:00 a.m. may be noticeable on some mornings."
