"What a terrific spot! The bar was comfy, and cosy; the room clean, and tastefully decorated with a comfy bed, and wonderful view of the viaduct and Whernside. And, the fish & chips - exceptional! For us, the staff made our stay, Will, Courtney, Angela, & Val, couldn't do enough for us, despite a very busy bank holiday weekend. Thank you, we had a great evening and a cracking breakfast to boot."

"The hotel setting is delightful and has a real 'old country house' feel to it. There is a resident long-tailed peacock, who made very loud and frequent 'crows' and once flew from some high trees at dusk, which was amazing! The bar and a restaurant are next to each other and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. The full breakfast was excellent, if a little pricey at £14.50, although this was probably equivalent to any cafe price nowadays. I was grateful to be upgraded to a twin room for no extra charge! However, there were some practical points I found unhelpful and maybe the hotel could give them some thought, given that my room tariff on the wall near reception was £170 pp per night! There were two double sockets fitted over a heavy desk, which partially covered the sockets and without moving the desk out slightly, it was impossible to use my chargers or the kettle. The bathroom was in good order and the shower very good, but the grab rail was dangerously loose and I didn't want to use it. I'm 72 years old and just beginning to appreciate the benefits of a grab rail, but this could not be used safely. It was also installed near the tap end and might have been more useful at the back of the bath? The windows were old and heavy and I had to climb onto a seat in the window bay to open them - I like fresh air! There were a number of elderly people staying who might have found it difficult to solve these problems... But I would certainly stay here again!"
