I stayed at the Palacio Sintra Guest Sites for two nights and loved it so much that after exploring more areas of Portugal, I extended my trip to return to Sintra for a few more days of beauty and sightseeing.
Isabel is a delightful hostess, who always has a warm smile and laugh. If you upgrade by €10 for breakfast, she offers a healthy spread of while fruits, cheeses, yogurt, meats and pastries.
After I made a reservation for my return, she called me that morning to ask for my arrival time so she could be there to meet me. She was especially helpful in guiding me to COVID test resources for my departure flight back to the US.
It's a true "guest house", not a hotel, so there is not always someone at the reception area. You will be given two keys: one for your room and another for the building door. The property is old and charming, but the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the AC was just right and a controllable unit in each room, and the plumbing was modern with a rain showerhead and handheld sprayer in the shower stall and a glorious clawfoot tub-- plenty of boiling hot water for a shower and soak after plodding up and down the many stairs of Sintra.
Many of the suites also have small private outdoor terraces to enjoy your own burke of wine while listening to the local color, yet even with the proximity to the buzz of town, the room is quiet once you close the doors.
It's a lovely experience.
*Lawn and scaping currently undone due to COVID. Still charming.
