Needing a few days to escape after a family funeral, I made an excellent choice in Pestana Cidadela Cascais. I had never even heard of the town of Cascais, how I do not know, as it is fabulous! The entryway through an old walled arch, past stunning art in the courtyard created a warm feeling before I even entered the hotel. I was made to feel very special and although a few teething problems in my room, the service and resolution were 1st Class! I chose the location as I was seeking some quiet solace. I even had a dove that appeared on my balcony every day which was a sign that all was okay. On the downside, the path to and location of the pool was very odd and hard to find. The restaurant was below par with service very slow and more attentive on the larger groups of men. Additionally, two of my meals were not up to standard in quality and I did not receive helpful reactions to my request for changes. So that was a disappointment although in the marina there were a whole host of wonderful alternative places to eat. Taberna da Praca in the Pousada and Art District was also delicious! I would recommend the hotel, room and service (just not dinner in the restaurant) to others.
