This place is a classic, it suited my purposes pefectly, which were a place to stay during a difficult time. Peace and tranquilty, so, good timing for me as it is a seasonal trade. The two staff members were very helpful, Assad being in the challenging position of managing the whole place on his own with the help of his right hand man MD the chef, who makes a fantastic chicken curry. They both performed admirably and are probably looking forward to the summer season when there will be more gusts to liven up the place... Myself, I just enjoyed the laugh I had meeting the odd random sheep in the carpark lol

Less maintained property, potential for good business if maintained well and with professional staff. The coffee was terrible with the breakfast. Hope they will improve .

Wonderful comfy room and beautiful location.
I was a little concerned at first as I couldn't find the Hotel initially, the position is quite remote. But that said, a call to reception cleared all that up within a minute. I was quickly helped, welcomed and shown to my room. The room was warm and comfy, the bed was excellent. Though very quiet, I was warmly welcomed into the Bar / Restaurant, excepting not to get any food I I thought I was the only guest, I was assured it was not problem. I ordered Scampi & Chips, which was served promptly and was delicious. I had a great nights sleep, waking and looking out of the window, one can only be in awe of the stunning Cornish countryside. This was a lovely stay, friendly staff, comfy room and a beautiful location.

Not a bad experience. Will visit again
Stayed over 1 night. Room was good. Bunkbed was a little arkward but cant complain really. Beds were clean and comfy. Only issue was the toilet was splashing water on the floor when we flushed it but wasnt a huge problem. Lovely park for our child to play in right outside too. Restaurant was shut during the visit but the staff were lovely and gave us cheap drinks and snacks instead. Lovely view from balcony. Calming relaxed energy around us. Will be staying again. Good value.

The hotel looked like it was at the end of a long summer season. The reception area is bare with no real welcome look or feel. The guy behind reception was welcoming but could have used wearing a uniform or at least a badge! The room was ok, no mirror in the room only a bathroom one. No breakfast unless pre booked and no one on reception or a key drop box to hand key back on check out.

The accommodation was in such a lovely setting which meant I felt even more let down with the place itself. Parking was ample but that was mainly due to there being very few guests. As soon as I entered the reception area, there was a fusty smell which lingered on the nostrils. The place has so much potential but the owners are quite clearly interested in cost-cutting and saving a penny as and where they can. My room had an outside seating area but the door leading out required an Herculean effort just to lock it and there was no curtain or door covering to provide any privacy which was required as you could see in if I needed to use the bathroom. The bed was quite comfy. On the morning I paid for breakfast (even though my initial search had breakfast included as part of the search parameters). Instantly wished I had not bothered as they ingredients used were very poor and made a greasy spoon look like a Michelin star restaurant. Finally, the shower methodically dripped warm water not even sufficient to waterboard someone in Guantanamo Bay. I took a wrong turn that evening.

Needs a over haul
We stayed in one of the rooms and as soon as you walked inside it smelt frousty and not fresh. The carpet was stained, we couldn't get the tv to work at all and there was no mirror in the room so trying to dry hair in front of a mirror was not an option. We got downstairs at 10am on sunday am to be told breakfast was already finished

Refurb required (or even just a good clean)
Hotel is in need of a full refurb. Bathroom was not clean (there was a shower mat on the tray of shower cubicle to cover a split in tray and looked as if it hadn’t been taken up to clean for years) The carpet was covered in pine needles and dead wood lice around the edges, so clearly hadn’t been Hoovered properly for a long time a land definitely not before my stay. Sink didn’t drain for ages either. Bed was clean thankfully and the curry I had for dinner was very nice.

A lovely place to stay
The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful. When we ate at the hotel, the food was freshly prepared and arrived in a timely fashion. The room was a good size and had a small en-suite which was adequate. The surroundings were lovely, with sheep occasionally wandering in from the fields nearby. An altogether lovely holiday.

Is it a hotel, is it a tavern, none of the above
The description is misleading as it’s a tavern not a hotel, and that’s in name only, there was no restaurant or bar, the reception was manned by Asians that spoke to each other in their own language whilst ignoring issues, which I found quite rude, the room was adequate at best, the towels were dirty and marked, apparently one large and one small towel are adequate for two adults visiting, the hot drinks facilities were poor, the cups were dirty and there was only one milk sachet, there wasn’t any housekeeping at all, so to sum up based on the booking, there was no breakfast or food of any kind, no bar, the view of the lake was there between the trees, I wonder how I get a refund, and the personal hygiene of one member of staff was Covid proof as his body odour assaulted the senses

Started off where the receptionist tried to take money from the account on the booking when it was pay at property, wasn’t given a proper check in or no information given about food times, got shown to our rooms, went to use the shower and the shower head came off, and we could smell weed from another room, so we complained and got moved to a hut, The lady manager Cindy was so helpful and apologetic and offered free food and drink for us both , we moved to a double room for our last night which was a lot better, we felt everything and everyone was very unorganised and staff not understanding what we were saying or wanting, very bad communication.

I used Colliford as an overnight stop while on a bike trip to Land's End. For the price you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere in such a nice location. Yes, the hotel is dated in parts, however it has everything you'd expect to find. The room was clean and had good facilities and plenty of space. I got back latish in the evening however the lady who runs the Hotel (I didn't catch her name) was more than happy to rustle up some sausage egg and chips for me which hit the spot. I had a good nights sleep and breakfast hit the spot again. The staff were more than happy to help, friendly and even go out of their way for you. Would I stay here again? Yes Would I recommend it? Yes, I had read some of the previous comments and ummed and ahed about staying. However what I personally think people need to take into account is small independent places like this one are struggling to keep open after covid and the current economic state. Yes nothing is high end but it's not priced high end either, everybody's on a budget!! If we don't use places like this we'll lose them and the only choice we'll have is expensive chains with no character. They cant improve things if people aren't staying there. All I'd I say is give it try, it's in a very good location to base yourself out of to spend a few days exploring the local area.

The staff were very intensive nothing was to much trouble ideally you woule need to drive but surrounding are beautiful apartments was ideal for familys keep up the great work and looking forward to coming back when my cars fixed beautiful views of the lake and outdoor patio hope the wethers better when i return very quiet and relaxing see you all soon

Fawlty Towers but with a view
Lovely woman running the place and doing her best in difficult circumstances. However the place is very dated. I had a dirty bathroom. Despite a menu, there was no choice but the lady made me a steak - medium rare but came well done. Very limited drinks available in the bar. Breakfast was OK but mould on the toast. No receipt available other than a hand written piece of A4… The owners need to throw a bit of cash at the place and actually manage it properly - the lady running the place needs help with more staff and resources. It’s a shame because it’s in a lovely setting.

Nice and peaceful setting
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel family room. It was clean, comfortable, had all what we needed. Hotel is in lovely setting, peaceful and quiet. Balcony was a bonus, shame about the weather, we would've loved sitting outside and watch the lovely scenery.

Faulty towers in triplicate!!!
Unfortunately the hotel needs full refurbishment and updating. There was one young lad very helpful and full of enthusiasm.who seemed to have been given the job of receptionist, cleaner, bar staff and general trades I think the only thing we didn't see him do was cook!! But considering we are in covid infectious world the hotel was not as clean as it could be, one person could not be expected to carry out all the duties and ensure the anti infection of the bar/reception/toilets/camping wash area. The food was nothing to write home about freshly cooked but out if a freezer, tesco frozen cod fillet and cheap ingredients at pub prices no tap beer only cans! And as for the rubbish piled up in the corner of the car park that we watched being moving from one skip to another!! Dead wasps on the window sill in the main function room that's a loose description more like a grubby old pub lounge the only thing going for it was the veiw over the lake. In our bathroom the shower basin was cracked and due to the rain we experienced the windows ran with condensation. No patio table on the balcony and to be fair that had seen better days. The bed was however clean and comfortable but that was the only plus. It needs some serious investment or pulling down and rebuilding. I would not stay again and certainly would not hold a wedding or other function there. We stayed as it was convenient for us and we had only booked for 2 days and we were out visiting during the day.

No cold water from tap. Hot water from tap basically non existent. No hot water pressure for shower. Cold shower it was then. Room of a poor standard and finish. Nice to wake up to a dodgy fire alarm at 1am. Told front desk what time I was checking out but no one present and front office locked up.

Would highly recommend
Our stay was lovely, beautiful settings on Bodmin moor by the lake. Family room that we stayed in was very warm clean and a comfortable bed. we would highly recommend staying here and we will be going back in the summer. The manager went above and Beyond our needs and was more than helpful with any of our requests. Some of the negative reviews on this site do not paint a clear picture of this place and people should not be influences by them.
