The Retiro was recommended to me by a friend who also had a great experience, it is a renovated 20th century home of a really wealthy family, and much like the architecture in the immediate area, stays true to it's origin, with plenty of original charm, and all the modern necessities you need in 2017, we were upgraded to a jr. suite upon arrival and ended up in thee best room, top floor, over looking the Park (think NY's Central Park). It was NOT noisy, and we were there on a Saturday night! The staff was warm, friendly-all English speaking as well) and accommodating. 30+ Euro pp for breakfast SEEMED a little high, but we opted out into the morning instead, so it may very well have been worth every penny.
The room certainly was. Love Madrid, and although I've stayed at the Ritz a couple of blocks away as well, this is now my Madrid hotel.
