The hotel is located right on Gran Via, a 10-15 minute walk to all the major attractions in the city centre. The staff were friendly and helpful.
But… the hotel room was old and the fittings were tired. My bathroom had not been cleaned well and smelled like a public washroom. The shower walls were also dirty and grimy, like they hadn’t been cleaned in a while. The room had very poor sound insulation, and I could hear everything my neighbour did (including in the bathroom).
Then, at 1:00 a.m. the emergency alarm went off and an announcement was made that we had to evacuate. When I went down to reception a few minutes later, we were told it was a false alarm. If it was a false alarm, why make the announcement to evacuate?
I appreciate that alarms are beyond the control of the hotel, but cleanliness and upkeep are definitely within their control and a very basic thing to expect. They failed there.
