"The Crown Hotel is nestled in a quiet community near Carlisle. It is located near a train station but also has a parking area (spaces are a bit tight, designed for small cars but filled with larger cars). There is access to a private gym/fitness center on site. There is a lovely garden with seating. The morning breakfast is quite nice with many options. We stayed three nights while we explored Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. Also, there is a nearby footpath that takes you along the Eden River to Constantine's Cell/Wetheral Caves which made for a lovely morning walk."

"Great stay in a very pleasant room overlooking the cricket pitch and down to the river. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff. Good choice of bar or restaurant food with local beer on tap."

"Owners were very welcoming. Lots of space, with games downstairs. Very quiet at night. Up a winding country road near Haltwhistle. Breakfast excellent."

"A very clean and comfortable place. The rooms were very nice and the beds quite comfortable. The bathrooms were up to date and there was plenty of hot water. The pub next door was very hand for a drink and breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff. "

"This could be a fantastic hotel but unfortunately the facilities are very lacking. This hotel doesn’t serve lunch or evening meals as they don’t have a chef yet. As this place is a bit out of the way it wasn’t what we were expecting. We had paid for 2 nights but left after 1. We booked a deluxe room with garden view. Deluxe it definitely was not. The shower cubicle had the previous guest hair on the walls. Not for us and we wouldn’t return. Could be a fabulous place. Hats off to the guy running the place who seems to be the receptionist, cleaner, barman & breakfast cook rolled into 1. "

"An oasis when walking the Hadrian way. Rather over-priced but the standard of food and comfort make it palatable. What was really noticeable was the friendliness of the staff. From the girls who served us dinner to the lady on breakfast, they had a smile on their face and that makes all the difference. "

"Definitely worth a visit. We only stayed for one night but we will be back. Staff all unbelievably good. Food exceptional. Very quiet. Really good nights sleep. Highly recommend this hotel. We also did the free history tour of the castle. Do not miss this as it includes a visit to the roof to take in the views."

"A lovely traditional building, beautifully decorated and good sized rooms. It's cuisine, not average grub. Challenges me to try something different. Friendly, helpful staff. An affordable treat. Fabulous location close to the Abbey with disc parking across the road and a large free car park 5 minutes walk away by the Wentworth Centre. Second visit. If they start to accept well behaved dogs I'll be back again. "

"Right from the friendly welcome by Tom, my stay was fantastic. I was travelling myself with 2 young children for a family funeral in the area. All the staff were friendly and very good with the children. They were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We enjoyed a meal in the evening. Good choice for adults and children. We also all enjoyed the buffet breakfast too. "
