Good location right on the high street in Melrose, but the hotel is very dated and in need of redecoration. I seem to have been upgraded and had a much better room than I expected, very large with a bay window overlooking the street, so I was very pleased with my stay. Breakfast is good and freshly cooked to order.

The food and drink in the pub was nice. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge but average. The toilet would not flush properly. I would probably not stay here again if there were other options.

Stay was ok however tv didn’t work, bathroom was mouldy, shower was connected to bath taps so couldn’t get a comfortable heat. Breakfast was ok but bacon tasted a bit fishy? Staff were nice.

The staff was great, but overworked. I had a hard time finding anyone so I could check out. The restaurant was good with a surprisingly varied menu. I would suggest avoiding room 11 if you can it was quite hot and I couldn’t open the windows because I was right over the kitchen fan. So it either smelled like chips or bacon, depending on the time.

I liked the historic charm of the building but, in my opinion, there is a need for some considerable investment to make it a bit more comfortable for guests. For example, the window did not open which made by wife anxious. The sliding door would not function.
