"Decent stay. Staff was very nice. Indoor Osen was pleasant. Rooms had a gorgeous view, but bed was not very comfortable. Good stop for Nakasendo trail, but expensive for what it is in my opinion. "

"Beautiful vista, food was great (strongly recommend doing a dinner reservation AND a breakfast reservation) owner was extremely kind and generous. He spoke better English than I spoke Japanese, which made it extremely easy to meet in the middle. 10/10 experience."

"The staff is very friendly. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, and liquid soap. There is a small refrigerator available; make sure to turn on the dedicated switch to power up the refrigerator. A yutaka is available for use. The hotel has a nice bathhouse! There are washing machines & dryers available on site. The breakfast is amazing- a large selection to choose from. The hotel has a restaurant. The closest restaurant outside the hotel is a Yoshinoya."

"It was within comfortable walking distance from INAKITA station. It was the only available closest hotel when i booked for a last minute trip here a few days before. I found a familiar restaurant, SUKIYA nearby where I had my delicious lunch. "Beds are super hard was unable to sleep. Plus I had some sort of alergic reaction to something in the room in this Route Inn and are previous stay at Lake Kagoshima.I dont normally suffer from allergies and I dont have Asthma but as soon as i layed down I got all stuffed up and had issues breathing when trying to sleep. Perhaps its a cleaning product they are using or the contents of the pillows unsure but that has never happened before both places I stayed for 1 night only. it was strange so...

"I had the incredible chance to stay at the world’s oldest hotel, and it genuinely lived up to its legend. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was stepping into a different era — not in a museum-like way, but in a quiet, living continuation of tradition. The surroundings are stunning: mountains, rivers, pure silence. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down and just be. The hot springs were a highlight — natural, healing, and beautifully maintained. I left feeling physically and mentally reset. Meals were exceptional — local, seasonal, prepared with real care and balance. You can tell this isn’t just hospitality, it’s heritage passed down through generations. The staff were some of the kindest and most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. Discreet but always there when needed, with a level of attention that feels almost forgotten in today’s world. It’s more than a hotel — it’s an experience of Japanese culture, stillness, and deep respect for nature. I honestly hope my descendants can visit this place another 1,300 years from now. It’s worth preserving forever."

"This ryokan was beautiful with a spacious room and great mountain views. The onsen was particularly nice with indoor and outdoor mineral baths, a cold plunge, and a sauna. There was also a private shower in our room if you aren’t interested in the onsen experience. The half board was good but served traditional local Japanese food - great for the adventurous eater but it may not be for everyone. Though I found enough familiar things to feel full at dinner and breakfast. It was a special place, great for relaxation but probably not appropriate for children. We wished we had more days there to soak in the natural surroundings and just relax. "
