This place is basic. The area isn’t nice, and the hotel itself could really do with a face lift. It’s ok for one night if you’re coming from or going to the airport like we were, but the hotel next door is much nicer.

Comfortable
The room was bright and clean and the shower was great. I wasn't a great fan of the food but that was more personal food choice than the quality. The hotel is just off a busy street but it is quiet and feels secluded and is right on the beach.

you get what you pay for
We stayed here for several nights at the beginning of our trip around Sri Lanka to give us some rest and to visit Colombo. The hotel is nice enough – a little rough around the edges but perfectly fine. A/C and fan in the room, hard but big bed, safe, huge shower with strong water pressure and an abundance of hot water. Only thing we didn’t like was that the room had no fridge – in the heat of Negombo, cold water was essential so not having a fridge meant we constantly had to buy cold water as and when we needed it. Luckily there is a small convenience store 1 min walk form the hotel that was selling basic drinks and snacks for a bargain price (1litred bottle of water cost about 25p). We had a room with a balcony which offered lovely views of the beach and sea. We went in September and the waves were way too big to go swimming in. Also, as soon as walked along the beach we were hassled by relentless hawkers. We ended up sitting in the hotel garden instead (padded sun loungers and free towels provided) – the hawkers would still call out to you but were not allowed to enter hotel grounds, so that offered some degree of peace. For ease, we ate at the hotel for dinner twice: limited menu with nothing too special on it, your standard mix of European staples (burgers and pizza) with one or two Sri Lankan meals. All very reasonably priced – a chicken pizza cost about £3 (just be wary of the bones!). There are a few restaurants within walking distance of the hotel along the main road,

Its atmosphere is good but they don't even provide drinking water as an amenity as it is a basic need of any traveller.

The room I got initially was filthy and after complaining they offered me a sea view room witch wasn’t bad but not worth for the money they were charging. No hot water no drinking water coffee or tea. You need to go to the reception for everything. I moved to Paradise Beach hotel which is few blocks away and I was glad I did the move. Beautiful room with sea view and the price is almost the same that I paid for Hotel J. I will never stay again at Hotel J and will never recommend anyone.

Nice ocean views from the room. The queen bed was just two beds pushed together. Cleanliness could have been better. Constant hawkers at the beach became pretty annoying along with the construction happening. Aside from that it’s a great location on the beach.

Great for a short stay
Hotel J was a nice place to stay for a couple of nights to get a feel for the beach town. The facilities were good and the breakfast was nice. The WiFi was not great in the room however it worked well outside near the pool. The room had a UK type power outlet which was useful for us as foreign travellers.

Great value for money right on the beach! Staff were wonderful even when I arrived at 2am! Rooms clean with a good shower and air con. Didn’t get time to use the pool or restaurant but looked nice. Close to everything in Negombo!

Very basic hotel, well situated on the beach and close to shops but very basic, Beds are comfortable ,pool is adequate food is very reasonable but service slow. This hotel didn't meet my expectations. It was a boring experience overall, they do not have a room service and there was nothing much to do either as the beach wasn't clean, you need to go to a bit far for the swim area which is fine. Somehow this place didn't have the 'wow factor' as I was expecting. However, it has clean rooms and washrooms. Usual breakfast and good food to order. It is a fine place to stay for a night.

Good stay if you like the beaches.
Overall good stay. We had a quick and easy check in and was met by smiling staffs when we arrive. The room was large and the facilities are quite adequate. The only 2 drawback are that the hotel only provides a thin bedsheet as blanket and the curtains do not filter out sunlight well which makes sleeping in daytime difficult. In room safe is provided but there are no fridge or bottled water provided. I also like the swimming pool area and their bar makes good drinks. Nearby along the beach, you could find street food stalls and people playing kites, beach activities.

Lovely room, good restaurant and bar with good food and reasonably priced drinks. Nice pool and sun lounger area although the pool is quite small. Staff are super helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a stop over in Negombo.
