"The Highland Club is easily one of the best stays I've ever had -- a scenic, luxurious, and historic setting at the edge of Loch Ness and in a cute small town with restaurants and shopping. The room itself was quiet, spacious and relaxing. They offer a variety of leisure activities, including a gorgeous swimming pool. The restaurant on the property is on the water and has good food and stunning views. You can't ask for better from a stay at this beautiful place."

"Plenty of parking. Very unfriendly welcome. Family rooms are across the other side of the hotel from reception so bring bags with wheels. Received all the info about works being done and staff training AFTER our stay, which was very unhelpful. Very understaffed reception, think the boss walked past a few times when there was a queue of 3 of us waiting for 20 minutes. Ridiculous wait time for such a short queue, it was much larger when I left and staff didnt even acknowledge or apologise to anyone waiting. The room was basic, with paper thin walls. I could hear my neighbour using the toilet in detail, full conversations and every slight movement. Not ideal when kids are trying to sleep or not great for your neighbour when your kids are making normal kid noise. Lovely area, lots to do but very disappointing"

"Reception staff were so friendly and helpful . Proper gym not just a few pieces of equipment with stunning views over the loch . Lovely spa and lunch outside was a treat . Views over the mountains . I had salmon and hubby the fish and chips . definitely recommend . We upgraded our room to a lake view ( worth it ) and a bigger room . Really good coffee machine in the room with nice touches of highland cow biscuits . Bathroom could do with upgrading but overall a great experience . Lots of walks and outdoor activaties to partake in . Well worth a visit . "

"We were woken at 7am by a fire alarm and had to evacuate our room with a baby and a 6-year-old, only for it to stop before we even reached the muster point. It was later explained, quite casually, that it was caused by someone showering with the bathroom door open. Given there’s a sign warning about “sensitive” alarms, this doesn’t feel like a one-off and isn’t acceptable in a family hotel where sleep is already precious. We stayed at Macdonald Aviemore Resort as a family of four. When we raised this, along with a broken kettle, reception initially offered complimentary breakfast but later withdrew it after checking with a manager, which felt poorly handled. The hotel itself feels tired and in need of investment. Our room was small, especially with a cot, the shower was only lukewarm, and carpets were dirty with an unpleasant smell. The lift also smelt strongly of smoke. There are positives: the pool and facilities are good and we enjoyed them, though some maintenance is needed (hair dryers out of order, puddles on the floor, drains not very clean). The outdoor park is great for kids but also showing wear. Aviemore is a fantastic location, but the resort feels like it’s relying on that rather than maintaining standards, it’s certainly not 4 star. With better upkeep, it could be much better."
