The area is beautiful, but quite remote from Hakone attractions. The hotel does not have transportation well coordinated for train pickups and into town, thus you feel remote and disconnected, making the beauty of the surroundings not worth it. The dining is terrific. The rooms are showing signs of aging and need a refresh.

"The guesthouse was absolutely gorgeous and in a stunning part of Japan. We rented a car in Matsumoto and used the guesthouse as a base for visiting Kamikochi. The hotel is bright and cheery.
