The Latch Inn

6/10 Okay

"I loved the heritage building and all the antiques. The breakfast in the lovely old furnished dining room was very good and complementary. The waiter gave excellent customer service. On the downside, the room smelled horribly of some pungent air freshener. I’m very sensitive to toxic fragrances. We opened all the windows. When returning to the room for the night it was very cold. There’s only a plug in electric heater & when I turned it on it blew a fuse & the TV wouldn’t work again. The parking is in an area you walk to behind the building through a little park walkway. Very expensive at nearly $400-00 per night. No one was around when we checked out. My 90 yr old aunt froze in her room with only an electric fireplace."

"This place is truly a little gem. Their newly renovated rooms are very nice and have lovely views of the water. Walking distance to lots of really cool shops and eateries on Cowichan Bay. The staff here go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and unforgettable (we can attest to this after the owner came to our rescue at about 2am after I managed to lock us out of our room)! Highly recommend without hesitation."

"Property is slated for extensive renos apparently starting in fall. Is in disrepair and needs upgrades. Hopefully newer version will have a pool and or fitness room.. Broken windows, odor of beer, homeless people sleeping outside by cars. Needs landscaping, lighting, powerwashing, paint. Room, sheets were clean. Air-conditioner worked well but very loud. Breakfast was basic, no pastries, eggs, toast, etc. Price was ok."

"The property is in a great location with only a small parking lot between the hotel and waterfront. Our room had a view of the waterfront. There is a small grocery store directly across from the hotel. There are also lots of small shops including a dollar store just down the street and a few different choices for food within walking distance. It was a great place to go for a walk and enjoy the view. Breakfast was included and provided in a small room in the hotel. It was clean with the usual choices. My only concern would be if you have a hard time with stairs there is no elevator but they did offer to carry our luggage up to our room."
