2/10 Terrible

"The Wi-Fi was not working for four days, and the issue was still not resolved by the time we left. We have stayed at Axel hotels several times in the past and have generally had good experiences. However, this was by far the worst experience we’ve had regarding Wi-Fi service. As frequent travelers, we rely on internet access during every trip, so the lack of a working connection throughout most of our stay was extremely frustrating and disappointing."

"We stayed only 2 days and one night. Positives were a lovely big hotel with well appointed rooms and delightful shower and bed comfort. Loved the pools but it was extremely busy during our stay and we struggled to find even a single sunlounger even though four of us - didn’t feel great having to put our things on the floor to go for a swim. It was Gran Canaria day though so perhaps this was ann exception. Also parking had run out of space so we had to pay EUR25 to park across from the hotel in a general car park. Staff did not offer much information at check in and I felt like I had to keep popping back to ask for info, towels, where to go for half board meals etc. Bags did not all make it through to room and no one answered a few attempts to phone call through to reception so we ended up having to pop back to reception to ask. The grounds are beautifully kept and pools really special and we loved the styling of the restaurants but even there it just felt staff lacked training and finesse you get in other 5 star resorts. Eg waiting 7 mins to be noticed and seated in a restaurant that only had 4 other tables used and then having to flag for attention to get a spare plate even though they knew we were sharing a pizza. Food was tasty and was lovely to put on the champions league cup final but rather poor that twice they cut it off mid game and mid penalty shoot out as they were running to pre-programmed timing and it taking about 10 mins to get it back on each occasion."

"Feels a bit harsh not to give it as what I going to moan about really can't be helped It's situated on a main road so being on the balcony can be noise and down by the pool you are getting fumes from the road. It's centre based tho so to be expected. Room was great and clean - didn't find it dated like some suggest. Plenty of sun loungers and staff especially housekeeping where very friendly. Suppose the question is would I go back there and the answer is yes. Supposedly a star rating lower to a local hotel within the same brand. You wouldn't know it. 👏 Breakfast was the buffet was all know and love these days."

"Superb location and a great base to explore the whole island while staying in a tranquil, high-end hotel and area, away from the crowds. Stunning views both up into the dramatic mountains and down over Maspalomas and its dunes to the ocean. Exceptionally friendly and courteous staff, a perfect balance. They all seemed to care deeply about their guests and to take pride in their work and hotel. Excellent breakfasts and dinners, with top quality ingredients and cooking. Before staying, I had the impression the food might be a little too light, like a health spa, but in fact dinners were well proportioned four-course affairs. The whole property is peaceful and uplifting, with delightful planting, well maintained paths through the grounds, and perfect spots for the pool and al-fresco breakfasts. Tucked away you can find a multitude of amenities, such as a sauna, outdoor games such as boules and tennis, an indoor games room, a gym, a yoga studio, and more. The room was very comfortable, with everything to a high standard. It really is a complete place for a quality, peaceful retreat."
