Gorgeous scenery in the valley
The view from La Escondida over the mountains was absolutely stunning. It was peaceful, with breath-taking scenery and we’d just enjoyed our welcome drinks on the terrace when we decided to extend our stay, as it was so lovely. The food was lovely, and the hotel staff very helpful. We asked for some walking routes and really enjoyed one of the routes on the hotel grounds, then extended it to a mountain walk, which was gorgeous (but very very steep!). We will absolutely go back! Perfect for a quiet family retreat or romantic couple break.

Stunning location. Grounds are very well kept. Staff very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately the menus, standards of amenities such as quality of towels, no water in rooms and some decor have deteriorated mainly due to COVID restrictions and a take-over by a corporate hotel chain. The special touches and ambiance of old have gone and the new staff are doing their best in difficult circumstances. Still a wonderful hotel but less special than before.

Excellent, relaxing hotel
Beautiful, quiet location. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and beautifully presented, with all we needed. As our bathroom was so big it was a shame there wasn't a bath, which would have made it perfect. Breakfast items were pre-ordered on arrival from a limited continental list, plus eggs selection, which some people may find restrictive but provided everything we wanted and plenty of it. Overall we had a lovely stay and will return.

Great getaway hotel
A beautiful hotel to stay for a relaxing getaway. The rooms are furnished beautifully the beds are very comfortable. This is the fourth time we have stayed at this hotel as well as visiting for lunch on numerous occasions. The food is top class as is the service in the restaurant and bar.

What a fantastic hidden gem!
So impressed with this property! Thank goodness for GPS which made finding this hidden gem a treat. From the moment we arrived we were wishing we had more time to spend in the area; but made the most of the 2 nights and 1 full day that we had. Every thing was beyond our expectations and would go out of our way to stay here again. Thanks to all the staff for their friendliness and great service.

The peaceful surroundings and all staff were very accommodating to my dietary needs. The chef made sure we were happy with our meals and would often change the meals for vegetarian options for example. Been here twice now and couldn’t fault the whole experience. Definitely value for money for what you get. Would return again.

Let down by the resturant
Hotel very good in superb location. Staff excellent, very clean and tidy. Unfortunately it was let down by the resturant. One of our party ordered the duck main course and the potato was still frozen in the middle and was sent back. It returned brown on the outside but still not cooked in the middle. The breakfast was a reasonably buffet but we had to pay extra for hot food like eggs, omelette etc and we were asked each person how many slices of toast we wanted instead of bringing enough for the four of us. A bottle of still water was very expensive. No tv in any rooms. I think they are trying to go upmarket but not quite getting there.

Dearest David, First of all, we would like to thank you for staying with us and sharing your opinion. This feedback is always very important for us to improve day by day. Thank you so much for your kind words about our staff and hotel. We regret that your experience in our restaurant was not what you expected. Our chefs have been informed about your comments. Regarding breakfast, we think that the buffet offers variety enough to start the day with a good breakfast (cheese, ham, bread, fruit, croissants, yogurt, juice, coffee…), but, to complement it we decided to add the option of a hot breakfast for those people who maybe do not want to make an afternoon meal, paying just a few euros which we consider that is more a symbolic price. Anyway, we keep in mind your opinion, which has been communicated to management. Regarding breakfast, let me just point out that the reason for asking how many slices of bread you would like is no other than to try to avoid throwing food, which is a pity...Needless to say that we are always more than happy to offer more and more slices if our guests ask for it. Finally just saying that La Escondida is the perfect place to relax and forget the outside world for a moment. Since the hotel was opened nearly 5 years ago none of our rooms have had television. Our guests are always informed in the confirmation email after making a reservation. We find that the opinion of not having television can be diverse, but, these years of experience are telling us that most of our customers when they leave see it in a positive way.  Thanks again for sharing your experience with us. We’ll be going back to this hidden gem, loved it!
We spent a relaxing and fun week at La Escondida. Our hosts were generous and interested in their guests and made a point of checking in with us most days, to make sure that our stay was as good as it could be; their staff couldn’t be more pleasant, helpful and fun - obviously following the example of our hosts. The location in the hills of Penàguilla was stunning and peaceful; waking up to see the views was a joy. We played tennis, swam (in both indoor and outdoor pools), walked and had spa treatments. And there was plenty around to see; Alicante was only 45 minutes away. Although we took a car some just used a taxi service to get around. The food in the hotel was good with a simple lunch menu and an interesting evening menu. It was of good quality. However, if you didn’t like what was on the menu, you could ask for your own choice, as long as you gave the chef 24 hours notice - we asked for a paella on our last evening. Sometimes, if we’d been out, we would have the lunch time menu in the evening. I think the hotel would benefit from an outside bbq or a beach bar type of space to vary the choices available to guests but it’s a small hotel and may not be viable. We usually like to visit different places when we go on holiday but we’ll definitely be returning to ‘The Hidden One’ - La Escondida.

Stayed for one night with another couple celebrating a birthday. Very quiet area with amazing views. Dinner was a delight - well presented with tastes that would rival any gourmet restaurant.

We had stayed before when staff attention and efficiency was outstanding. Not so this time for an expensive 2 day Christmas. Dimly lit bedroom and unable to switch off noisy air conditioning (ear plugs were provided). The current waiters lacked organisation, albeit willingly. Breakfast on both days was an experience of being ignored taking 15 minutes to give the order followed by a 20 minute wait. Cold porridge in a cold plate returned. Granola was a 20 minute preparation, slower than the cooked plates. The full house of guests seemed to exceed their abilities. Only 14 seats were available in the bar for 25 guests - reduced as the lower lounge had been converted into a dining room for day visitors. Finally, even the receptionist was unprepared when we all queued to pay our bills. She had failed to switch on the printer! In short, supervision now seems to have been lacking. Who was actually in charge?

Lovely hotel but wasp issue whilst we visited
Lovely hotel with great food. Lovely outside areas and so peaceful! . The only real issue was that there was a problem with wasps during our visit which made it difficult to sit outside on the beautiful terrace. This was not the hotels fault but it would have been a bit mitigated by a few free drinks?

A very special hotel.
Truely a very special hotel. I really can't fault it, its Very romantic, warm, welcoming and friendly. Great decor and food and a swimming pool to die for. Also a must see is the Christians and Moors Fiesta in Alcoy. The hotel is perfectly situated for it.

Superb Food in a Setting of Outstanding Beauty
The hotel is situated in a peaceful area of outstanding beauty. We were greeted by welcoming staff with a drink and shown to our room which was furnished very tastefully. What really stood out though was the quality of the food and wine. Everything was extremely tasty and superbly cooked.We would have welcomed tea and coffee in the room however.
