A gem of a place
The room is lovely and comfortable. Has a fridge so were able to have fresh milk with our teas and coffes. Massive bed. The pub is welcoming and the food is lovely. If we are in the area again, this would be first on our list for places to stay

Best little modern hotel in the sticks
Walking holiday. Rooms very modern. facilities included phone charger with usb or remote charge. Very on point. TV was a proper smart TV not a 1st Gen excuse with freesat. Bathrooms exceptionally modern and clean. Friendly staff. Good food. Exceptional value for your money. Will return.

Lovely pub with good, spacious bedrooms in new garden buildings. Let down by poor service/staff upon arrival and serving dinner. Dinner itself was not very good and the breakfast was really pretty poor. A pity, because this could and should be a really great place.

Unique stay
A lovely stay in a quiet location. The room is unique in its position and style, good to be close to the pub, but separate from it so you feel secluded. The room is a little tired in its upkeep, needs a bit of a refresh, but warm and comfortable. Food served in the pub was good, but we did feedback that it wasn’t particularly hot when it came out, which was a shame especially when there weren’t many guests dining.

We love these rooms, they are a little bubble you can lock yourselves away in and then you have the pub which is top class, a real country class pub. Having stayed in the rooms many times we have always got the detached rooms, this time we got the room connected to another, the only one they do! This was not so good, the sound proofing was such you could hear our neighbours radio and most of their conversation!! So, without a doubt book the rooms, but ask for the detached ones!!

Loved the place, and will go again of the opportunity arises. Bags of character, great gardens, very comfortable accommodation Only 2 minor gripes - the menu is limited, and there's no EV charging.

Not quite as expected
This place was not quite as expected, the layout of the lodges was not as expected, overlooking each other. The rooms there selves were comfortable and very clean, perfect accessories in the bathroom and very comfortable bed. It was incredibly hot outside and in, even the aircon didn't cool the room down. Thought it was very expensive for room only. The pebbled access all around the property was not easy to walk on and not appropriate for anyone unsteady with walking issues.

Sadly disappointing
I stayed at other Upham pubs over the past few weeks so expected as good a standard here. On the positive side, lovely bar, dinner was tasty & the staff were good. Sadly, shoddy housekeeping on both days led to this negative review. The bar staff remedied what they could & the young lady who kindly cleaned my room on Thursday afternoon after housekeeping failed to do so was fantastic. But the housekeeping team let down The Thomas Lord (plug stuck in washbasin so unable to use overnight: only needs a chain attached to prevent this happening to future guests, slipped on water on floor other side of bed, no hairdryer, room not cleaned despite housekeeper stepping over the sign requesting it when they managed to take out the stuck plug, no decaf coffee although the young lady from the bar kindly gave me a jar when she cleaned my room). This may all sound petty but accumulated, it amounted to the difference between an excellent review & this disappointing one.

We enjoyed our stay for the most part: good beer, pleasant and friendly staff, clean pub and room. The drawbacks were: the gravel paths between the cabins and the pub were completely unsuitable from someone using two sticks. My wife had contacted the pub twice beforehand to confirm the absence of steps but there were in fact two or three. That may not sound many but it was significant for a person with limited mobility. The second drawback was the Sunday lunch with two guests. Although it was scheduled for mid-afternoon the quality the the beef was mediocre. Other than that we would recommend the Thomas Lord.

The establishment appeared short staffed which showed in the failure to provide the daily housekeeping required. Majority of the staff were friendly and polite. Food we ate was of a very good standard.

Heaven in Hampshire
Couple of days away to relax and visit the local area and family. The room was everything we expected, very comfortable bed and liked being able to open the bifold doors to the private patio area. Food was excellent as was the service and we would definitely recommend and stay again. Lovely area, useful village shop a step away from the pub and within easy reach of many other places. We took a day trip to the IoW.

Despite the listing saying free parking, we stayed on a Saturday night and could not get parked initially. We drove around the local area to try and park and it took us in excess of 90 minutes before getting parked. We were about to give up and say don’t bother. The room didn’t appear to have had a deep clean, very dusty. The TV didn’t work, the sink plug had no chain and the plug got stuck with a sink full of water. Once we emptied this out with a cup we then used a spoon to free off the plug. Although the amenities were there, it just seemed like it wasn’t kept very well. We certainly wouldn’t stay again, such a shame as the concept is good.

Pleasant stay at Thomas Lord
Arrived at the Thomas Lord early. We were tired and hungry . Had a lunch of Fish and Chips which was excellent . They went out of there way to let us check in a bit earlier also we could rest. Pleasant staff and comfy bed.!

Beautiful place, lovely and super friendly staff. Room was outstanding and the service great. The pub have an incredible good atmosphere. Lovely surroundings. Sad we only stayed for one ninght. I truly recommend it.

The fact the rooms were away from the pub in little cabins was great - the rooms were however tired and felt they could do with a good clean and a lick of paint - some mould around the skirtings in the bathroom which had some kind of jute carpet so hard to clean anyway, cobwebs in corners of rooms etc - the heavily perfumed air deodorisers were I feel covering a bit of a damp smell - we were charged a £15 per night cleaning fee for our dog which I knew about and didn’t complain about felt a little over the top when the overall cleanliness of the rooms was considered. Saying that towels and bedding felt clean and of a good quality. Staff very friendly and helpful although we ate and had drinks elsewhere. It served purpose for a couple of nights and I had read previous reviews re cleanliness so went into booking with eyes open and still booked but with the hope housekeeping had picked up a little. Great location and i know everywhere has had a hard time over last couple of years

Lovely quiet room, just needs a little TLC
Lovely room, in garden and very quiet, though bathroom needs attention - shower handle was broken off which hotel knew as it was on windowsill, and damp patches need repairing. Huge comfortable bed, and hairdryer, ironing board etc all provided. Continental breakfast very good as was the food in the restaurant at dinner. Just a little tired, hopefully this will be addressed before high season as nice play to stay.

Amazing place, dates furniture in a modern setting within tbe individual chalets works really well. Staff were very welcoming. Prices of alcohol I must admit is on the more expensive side, 8.50 for a small glass of wine took us by surprise.

Really happy with our stay, The Thomas Lord in West Meon is a real gem, I'm tempted not to tell anyone else so it doesn't too busy that we can't stay again! This is the second time we've stayed in about a month to use as a base for nearby vineyards. Room was clean and to a high spec as usual and the dinner also (we had the scallops for starter, fillet steak for main) was excellent yet again. That with the both the manager (I think James) and the young lady who served us at breakfast who were both incredibly attentive and friendly; keep up the great customer service! Will be back again soon!

Staff were all friendly and helpful. Accommodation was good & nice to have your own small patio. Beer garden was good with lots of tables which were well spaced out. Breakfast was more than adequate, the evening meal menu didn’t have a vast choice and was a little pricey for what we received. Overall, a good place to stay in a nice quiet location with easy access to the surrounding area. Would be happy to stay here again

Very nice stay
Very clean. Bathroom is a little worn in places. Not a huge amount of privacy from others with the curtains/doors open. Lovely food, very quiet even with the pub garden.

A wonderful location and overnight stay
My daughter and I stayed here to celebrate my birthday. The location is spectacular for walks. The Thomas Lord is situated in a beautiful village where everyone is really helpful and welcoming. Parking is easy and the cabin is such a wonderful surprise with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We ate in the restaurant which was reasonably priced and the service was faultless after a slight hiccup. Would definitely stay here again and recommend.

The room itself was lovely , however the walls between the cabins are so thin you can hear literally EVERYTHING which really made us feel uncomfortable . Take ear plugs and hope nobody stays next door . Food and service was good as was cleanliness of the room .

We were walking the Monarchs Way and booked the room and a table for 7pm for evening meal. Great welcome on arrival, excellent COVID controls, table service and via an app. The rooms are self contained log cabins built at a very high specification. Clean, comfortable warm with own thermostat, everything we needed. Just before 7 we went into the pub for our table for dinner, only to be told the kitchen closed at 6 as it’s Sunday. We explained we had booked with confirmation. Marco the manager asked to take a seat, then reappeared saying they could do roast beef dinner, (which was what we would have chosen) then asked what we wanted to drink. Telling us both the meals and drinks were on the house. The pub had a great atmosphere, a nice typical country pub with a good selection of real ales. The breakfast next morning was excellent (extra £10). We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Lovely cabins in the South Downs
We had a one night stop off as West Meon is a great base for exploring the South Downs. Really enjoyed the stay at The Thomas Lord. Really liked the idea of staying in a cabin and thought they were comfortable and well equipped. Food was very good - above average pub food and breakfast was really delicious (we upgraded to cooked breakfast). Service was very efficient and staff very polite.
