The area where the hotel was situated is a bit outside the town. At night the area is lonely Nearby hotel were mostly office area. Since I went on Chinese New year holiday eve I may be completely wrong. But not a hotel you stay if you want neighborhood to be busy
Other than that it was a nice hotel
Nice modern hotel in an area of terrible traffic, almost impossible to cross the road.
The pavements are in very bad condition, and next to canals (open sewers) that stink.
We could not walk anywhere.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
4 star minus
the staff was kind of funny, but not necessarily friendly
DRUNK PEOPLE PARTYING ON THE FLOOR ALL NIGHT, EXTREMELY NOISY, AT 5 am THEY RANG MY DOORBELL AND RAN AWAY. STAFF EITHER UNWILLING OR UNABLE TO TELL THE DRUNKARDS TO BE QUIET.
Sometimes it gets noisy especially when the hotel is hosting functions. The bar outside can be loud too. If you want quiet place, this is not for you. The room door is also not sound-proof. Anyone yelling in the corridor will be very audible in your room.
I asked for non-smoking when making reservation and even remind it in the Special request but the Receptionist informed me that room was not available and admitted that the reservation dept failed to book the correct type of room. But in the end, she said she “upgraded” my room so I can get a non-smoking room. Well, the upgraded room was no different from the room I booked in the first place but at least I still get the non-smoking room. Arrived at 11 pm, Hotel was full of people patronizing the cafe in the lobby. Room was clean. It was a quick overnight stay so overall was FINE.
the room service is not working. the staff simply pretends to not speak English, if they do not want to work. Both TV and WIFI weren't working well. I finally caught the staff playing around with it. I couldn't find out, why they did that. They were apologizing a thousand time. It felt, as if they were envious at their customers consuming the media.

Well done Bella!
First of all, I would like to thank all the staff from Golden Tulip Pontianak!
I was checked in to a room with soiled toilet, got a mobile phone taken at the swimming pool by another guest at the hotel (I got it back thanks to Denny), laundry service that forgets to send my shirts back, room service staff who forgets to open my beer after sending it to my room and several other hiccups.
Having said that, I have to single out one very special staff who is THE game changer, whom have made this trip a wonderful and memorable one instead of an unpleasant nightmare.
Her name is Bella!
I would have given a lower rating if not for for Bella's warm and thoughtful hospitality.
It is very often that the special moments you encounter is not because of the hotel facilities but the people running the place.
I am not going to repeat what the guests here on TripAdvisor have already written about the facilities.
Will I return to stay here should I visit Pontianak again? A definite yes!
Thank you once again to Golden Tulip Pontianak especially to Bella!
Really good hotel! If you have experienced ‘4 star international luxury/business hotels’ in provincial Indonesian cities you are in for a very pleasant surprise here.
All staff I encountered were pleasing and helpful. The general features of the hotel are good, although when there is a band in the large reception level bar it is rather noisy in the rest of the lobby area. Reception efficiently arranged cars for me on several occasions. The reception staff can understand simple English and as a non-Indonesian speaker I had no problem with any requests.
The Cinimon restaurant served me a very tasty and interesting nasi goreng with chicken sate. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of dishes - the fried, the spicy, omelettes, noodle and rice dishes, salads and various pastries including freshly made pancakes and waffles. There could be a wider selection of fruits, just three with only two one morning. However, an impressive breakfast offering.
Room was a standard type with a shower in the bathroom. All things worked, shower good. Two large towels but no small ones. Bed comfy. Air conditioning effective. I stayed twice; first had city view and the second an small internal courtyard. The only obtrusive noise was a 4.00am called to prayer but that’s inescapable in many Indonesian cities. I heard this over two nights in the city view room but nothing in the other room I stayed in.
I would happily here again.
