Pestana Viking Beach & Spa Resort

"The room was clean and spacious but a little dated. There was a waterproof sheet underneath the main sheet which was a little uncomfortable to sleep on as it kept wrinkling up in the night. The room had a kitchenette but no plates or cutlery and only tiny tea cups so we had to ask for these. It was nice to have a fridge and kettle though. The staff were mostly really friendly and helpful. The pool and surrounding area was nice but lots of seagulls flocked around there and frequently pooed in it so weโre not sure not clean it was. We both ended up with bad colds after a couple of days of swimming in the pool so we expect it wasnโt very hygienic. The sauna was very cold and therefore not a proper sauna. The gym on the other hand had no air conditioning and was really hot and felt quite dirty. We had a couples massage at the spa which was lovely and very reasonably priced. We also got given recommendations for local restaurants - Tasca 26, Quirinos and Olivalmar were all really good. The dinner buffet at the hotel was basic and rather disappointing. The beaches nearby were nice but you do have to walk to them. There is a cool tunnel in the rock to walk through from the closest beach to the next one and that is a nicer beach to swim from. Overall, it was a satisfactory hotel but not as nice as the photos or description implies."

"This place was great. The staff were super friendly. The Hotel was perfect location to reach everything we wanted to reach. We had a rental car which opened us to explore what the local scene had to offer. Beaches, Night markets, Supermarkets, Late night local Ice creams shops, Festivals, the lot! Underground parking was excellent at keeping the car cool. Rental towels (10 euro Cash deposit each) were very convenient as we were travelling very light. The Aqua Park was great fun. Be sure to check your child's height. 140cm + gets you full access to everything. Sub 120cm excludes some of the rollercoasters and big slides. Sub 110cm excludes a lot of the slides. Only a few Kiddy slides left to explore. A quick 5 min walk to the park. Wrist bands get you straight it. You will have to leave your stuff unattended if you plan on moving around the park as a family. Or you can rent a locker for 10euro per day. But everyone leaves their stuff on the grassed area and there seems to be a level of trust amongst everyone. We left our towels, phones and flip flops and never had anything missing."
