First of all, it wasn't clear to me when I booked that this property is located ON AN ISLAND. That completely changed the feel of our vacation. It was a unique experience and there were many nice aspects about staying on the island, but if you want to spend time in Portland, understand that you will be either paying for an expensive water taxi or tied to a ferry schedule. The hotel itself was very nice and the staff was lovely (even though I don't think we spoke to a single employee over the age of 25, which was interesting). However, the amenities are quite outdated and not what we pictured. The "fitness center" is filled with old equipment, the "arcade" has one functioning video game, the "bowling alley" is candlepin bowling where you have to set up the pins yourself, and the bike rentals are for no less than six hours at a time. Oh, and the fireplace in our room did not work. If you are aware of all this and still think it sounds like something you're interested in, you'll probably have a wonderful time. For us, while it didn't ruin our trip by any means, if we had to do it over again, we definitely would have picked a place right in Portland.
