ROOM was a decent size for the price and location.
LOCATION (Geylang, near Katong) was excellent, adjacent to so many things: 1. Joo Chiat, a trendy, low-rise historical street with lovely Peranakan architecture, cafes, boutiques, nice restaurants. 2. Multiple air-conditioned indoor malls with varied food offerings, supermarkets, medical, conveniences, etc. 3. No less than four nearby hawker centers with dozens of tasty, cheap, food stalls (mainly SE Asian). 4. Most major religious denominations represented. 5. East Coast Park (better for walking through greenways than the admittedly dirty beach). 6. And, of course, nearby MRT station with two critical lines. No more than one line change to get you almost anywhere in Singapore.
Downsides are typical for rooms on a budget: e.g., bed and towels aren't the most comfortable. No deal-breakers, though."
