Hotel Lækur

10/10 Excellent

"Picture-perfect Icelandic countryside retreat Hotel Lækur was one of the highlights of our time in Southern Iceland. This charming, family-run hotel is set in a postcard-perfect location, just 10 km from Hella, making it an ideal base for exploring the region’s waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, and other natural wonders. We stayed in one of the bright yellow cabins, which was warm, cosy, and exceptionally well insulated from the Icelandic weather. It featured comfortable beds, a small lounge area, and a well-appointed bathroom—everything we needed after a day of adventure. The main house has a welcoming restaurant where the family and staff serve delicious, home-cooked meals with genuine Icelandic hospitality. Their warmth and friendliness made us feel right at home. If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic place to stay while exploring Southern Iceland, I highly recommend Hotel Lækur. If you’d like, I can also make it a little more personal and reflective, in the style of your other Europe travel reviews."

Aurora Igloo South

"Igloo was a really cool unique experience. What stood out was the location and the size of the washroom. It was much bigger than I expected. Very clean. I think the only feedback I have is that it would be nice to have a cover for the roof. No cover on the roof sounds great for Aurora but during summers - the sun sets at 12 am and rises at 3 am. So there is no blackout sky. Early in the morning; the sun comes directly into the room and it gets very annoying because there is no way to avoid it. The room also gets very hot because of this. But that being said it was a good stay and what made it special was we got to see the midnight sun with horses right next to our igloo."

Kanslarinn Hostel

10/10 Excellent

"This was the second time I booked a room at the Kanslarinn. However, two years ago I booked a room at the Kanslarinn Hotel, and this year my daughter and I stayed at the Kanslarinn Hostel. Both the hotel and hostel are at the same location, but have separate entrances. While the Kanslarinn Hotel includes private bathrooms, the Kanslarinn Hostel includes shared bathrooms. There were four rooms on our floor with one toilet, and one full bathroom, which included a toilet, sink, and shower. We didn't have any issues sharing the bathrooms. Both hotel and hostel included a breakfast buffet including cheese, cold cuts, fried and scrambled eggs, bacon, bread, butter, jam, tomato and cucumber slices, cereal, skyr, apple and orange juices, tea and coffee. The rooms in both cases were super clean and quiet, and the beds were very comfortable."
