Enjoyable stay

Enjoyed my stay grounds are beautiful. I didn’t stay in the palace but in the building next store. My room was a basic single room. It was comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay again. The area and palace is beautiful and the breakfast in the palace was the best I have had at a hotel. Staff was nice and professional. The young lady who checked me out was especially helpful and nice.

Wonderful opportunity to stay at a palace, famous in the movie, Sound of Music. Grounds and paksce are spectacular, and the buffet breakfast on the terrece overlooking the lake was a wonderful scenic opportunity with the mountain rages in the background.

Friendly and helpful front desk and breakfast staff! Room is much better than I remember from ten years ago, 5 star now. Booked this to be able to have the special ‘Sound of Music’ movie connection. As a note, contrary to what I had read on another website … the temporary S. of M. museum (that is opening in 2026 at ‘Hellbrunn ‘) artifacts are NOT located at the ‘Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron’.

Schloss Leopoldskron is undeniably beautiful and steeped in nostalgia, especially for fans of The Sound of Music. Walking the grounds feels like stepping into a piece of cinematic and cultural history, and the setting by the lake with views of the fortress is truly magical. That sense of old-world charm and heritage is what makes this property so special. However, the hotel itself is in serious need of updating and better maintenance. While I understand and appreciate preserving the historic character, the rooms and common areas felt extremely dated and, unfortunately, not very clean. Furniture, carpets, and bathrooms appeared worn, and cleanliness did not meet the standard one would expect for a property of this caliber or price point. With thoughtful renovations and improved housekeeping, Schloss Leopoldskron could absolutely maintain its cultural and historical integrity while offering a more comfortable and polished guest experience. The potential is enormous—it just needs care, restoration, and attention to detail to truly shine again.

What an amazing place! We stayed for three nights while travelling thru Europe on our honeymoon. The service was excellent, the breakfast was delicious, and the property is full of history in every corner. It’s a little ways from the town centre so just make sure you take the 20-25 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride into account when planning. There is a bus stop right outside the main entrance. Would absolutely stay here again!

Favourite part of my whole trip to Austria. Staff are friendly and helpful, the building itself is beautiful, there are 2 fantastic restaurants within walking distance, and plenty of walking/bike paths to explore. Short uber ride into the city/to the train station. Around 15€. Looking forward to my next stay!
